New to Sims and Modding (q's)

Ok so when i download for example clothing where does it go. Is it now available in the dresser?

When you dl'ed things like glasses or earings how do you put those on?

For buy items do they just show up in the buy area they are related with?

When i dl'ed something and it has multiple file do i just put them all i the dl'ed folder or do i have to put them in a folder inside the dl'd folder?

Any info you have on dl'ing items to the game is much appreciated. i.e your experience with what you have done.

    Welcome to WorldSims.

Unfortunately, none of the things you're discussing have anything to do with modding so I'm going to move it to a more appropriate section.

But in answer to your questions:
If you have any custom content, it belongs in the downloads folder within the My Documents/The Sims 2 folder. Also, make sure that you have enabled custom content for your game. You may have to restart your game after you've enabled it. (There are two places in Options where you need to make sure it's ok'd.) Clothes won't be available in the dresser unless a Sim on that lot has bought them at a Community Lot.

If you have things like glasses or earrings which you want your Sim to wear, then you need to have them do a "change appearance".

Buy items will be in your buy/build which you can access on the home lots while playing, or on a community lot which you access from the neighborhood view when in "house" mode (as it doesn't let you access those lots for buy/build while in Sims mode. The exception to that is for purchased lots with Open For Business.)

If you have more than the TS2 base game, you can have subfolders within your downloads folder so that you can organize them the way that works best for you. If you have only the TS2 base game, you can't have things in subfolders within your downloads folder or they won't be visible.

I'll be moving this to "how to" now.

Where is the change appearence thing?
I'm brand new to this aspect of the game so if thats a dumb questions sorry
And changing clothes? is that part of changing appearence.

Also if i dl'ed something like a house does that just appear somewhere in the neighborhood?

I have Sims 2 and pets. So t doesnt matter which dl'ed folder i put them in?

Change appearance is done using the mirrors. If you have University you can also use the vanity and if you have Open for Business you can also use the makeover chair.

For changing clothes, your Sim (or at least one of the Sims living on that lot) needs to have bought the clothes at a Community Lot. If they have done this, then the dressers can be used for changing clothes with the "plan wardrobe" then "change to" interactions.

If you downloaded a house and installed it (by clicking on the sims2pack while the game was not running,), then you can find the house in your neighborhood view under "Lots and Houses" view in the "Lots and Houses" bin. (Many Maxis made houses are there as well, so you can place those in your neighborhood as well.)

They houses don't show up in your neighborhood itself until you place them.

If you have Sims 2 and Pets, then you put all .package files in the downloads folder. Since you have an EP which allows it, you can also use subfolders within your downloads folder (see My Documents/EA Games/The Sims 2/downloads) to organize them any way that makes sense to you.

Personally, I'm a "downloadaholic" so I have all sorts of orgainization for my downloads so that I can check them out more easily in case of problems.

A sample organization (far less complicated than mine:(
    Build Doors and Windows
    Build garden things
Clothing Female Adult and Young adult
Clothing Male Adult and Young adult
Clothing Toddler Male and Female (etc ad nauseum)
    Clothing meshes
    Objects recolors
    Objects meshes
    Walls and Floors
    Terrain colors

A mesh is the 3D framework that the clothes, accessories, hair and objects hang on. It's not included in the .package file but is necessary for the .package file to function properly in the game. The base game and EPs add many new meshes, but there are also custom content meshes which you need to download separately if the custom content requires it. The fansite where you find the custom content usually tells you which mesh you need. (The exception is things found on the Official site exchange.)

So im lost its not working

i got winrar, winzip, q-xpress , Colour Enable Package (CEP) (no other meshs needed)

turned on custom content and restarted game

dl'ed the file clicked open extracted it to the EA Games/Sims 2/downloads folder.

there are no subfolders nothing just the .package files and nothing still

they are outfits. i tried going to the dresser nothing, mirror nothing

    what did i do wrong

Confused is this how it is?

May have figured something out but think it is strange that it works this way. So i downloaded a swim suit for my sim but i can't use it becasue i already have one picked out from when i originally made my sim? You can't change into the outfits you just downloaded? You have to recreate a sim to use that outfit? Im lost here that doesnt make much sense.
I went to create me sims and the outfits were there. how do i get them on the sims i already have in game?

Figured it out sry folks you go buy it at the strip

    Is SimPe the right tool?

Is SimPe the right tool for basic object modding? I don't want to do meshes, maybe some recoloring, but nothing extreme. I'm just always tired of having to do endless searches for my favorite items when I forget to backup my Downloads folder.
I just want to make my own objects that do what I want them to and be able to make it quicker than it takes to search for what someone else has made.
This includes making my own telescope that always abducts, but have it as a different object so I can choose to buy it or not, and have a painting that refreshes your needs when you click on it and choose "Refresh needs".
Its either that or uploading a house of these kind of objects to my simpage so I always have it handy.

Glad you figured that one out! :) It is weird since I believe with Sims1 it was direct into your dresser.

If you want to do recoloring Body Shop works great. You can then rename them to whatever you want. Also, after you download something into your downloads folder you can always change the name of it...that might help for future downloads. Otherwise I suggest just constantly backing up your downloads.

I'm not familiar with SimPE though so someone else might be able to assist you with that part of your question.
