    floating baby

I already ran the patch trough my computer and it seemed to work, but now every time my woman has a baby, she lets go of it and the baby just floats there. After floating for awhile, she puts the baby down and no one can pick it up. There is also no option for me to name the baby. I tried to play it through, but the game won't lert me save or exit it. Any ideas?

First make sure that you're not running any unwanted hacks ...

Look in My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\ then resize the window so you can see some of the desktop.

Find the folder called Downloads and drag it to the desktop. Then try the game again and see if having a baby is working then.

If you have downloaded any houses you may have gotten a bad hacked or modified object that way.

PS An afterthought. If that isn't the problem ... do you have special event movies enabled (for example the birth movie etc.)? If so try disabling them - you'll find the option in graphics options menus (the little button below the buy/build/camera buttons - it has 3 dots on it ... )

Oh my, BIG problem Love. This happened to me, too, with one of my families.

First question: Can you restart the game from a point saved before the mother has the baby? In other words, do you have time to pause the game before the buy/build/save & quit functions become disabled?

IF SO, and if Mirelly's suggestions don't work (try those first because an unknown hack might be giving you troubles), here's another option.

Go here: http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/ffs/nl/hacks/ and download to your desktop the ffsdebugger.zip. Unzip it to your My Documents/EA Games/The Sims 2/Downloads folder. Start the game, go into the bugged household and immediately pause the game before anything happens. Go to buy mode to the miscellaneous secion (3 dots) and then to the miscellaneous section there (the next 3 dots). If you unzipped the ffsdebugger correctly, you'll find a yellow box with a red arrow. Cost $1. Place that box somewhere on your lot.

Now let Mom have the baby. When the buy/build/save & quit functions become disabled, choose a household member, then choose the yellow box. Click the "reenable controls" option. Cross your fingers! It worked great for me twice and half great the third time I got stuck.

If it works and you are now able to save the game, the situation is improved, but better not save yet. Wait to see if someone starts to feel sorry for the miserable little baby screaming on the floor.

I'm assuming here that it is still wiggling. (If it's not I guess the next step is the "moveObjects on" cheat and delete the baby but I've never had to do that so can't say how it works.)

In my game (it happened three times) someone eventually goes to take care of the screaming baby all on his/her own without your telling them to. The third time for me I was growing desparate for the baby and called a nanny who walked in and took care of it after hesitating, puzzled, for a while.

Naming the baby is a whole other operation that can be solved with Merola's painting. But before I go into that, try the above steps first to see if you can save the baby.

    Good luck.

On a side note I had an amusing move-out experience the other week.

When Raine London stormed out taking baby Bowie with her the bab got stuck on the deck having route finding problems. He actually did a stampy feet dance and waved the old halloo with a route failure balloon above his bonce before he finally decided to be a sensible sims and just teleport to the taxi like babies are supposed to ;)

    Wow, glad to hear it.

What you will need is Merola's Multi Painting. You can find it at Simchaotics: http://www.simchaotics.com/ under Merola's Sims 2. It's a hack and the last time I looked it was the eighth one down the list. Save the zip file to your desktop then unzip it into My Documents/EA Games/The Sims 2/Downloads folder.

Start the game and enter the baby's household. Go into buy mode and locate Merola's painting--which actually is a framed picture in the same folder as all the other paintings and pictures you can buy for the house--buy it and hang it somewhere in the baby's house. Now while the baby is still an infant you can find out all the things that the painting will do by playing with another member of the household. Unfortunately, I can never remember exactly where the "rename your sim" option is located but it's probably under a miscellaneous section.

Once the baby is a toddler and you are able to see its wants and needs, you can click on the baby then click on the painting and choose the "rename sim" option.

I used it a couple of times but that was many moons ago. Wish I could be more specific.
