Nightlife/Open for Business Hi all I have some birthday vouchers and quite fancy getting Open for Business as I've already got Sims 2 and the University addon and have gotten quite into them. But I'm wondering whether I should try and pick up Nightlife too, so that I install in the correct order. Basically I was hoping someone would advise me as to whether I should stick with one of them (ie that the other one isn't so good/doesn't add many features). I never really got into Hot Date (though that might have been because of the bugs rather than the idea) so I'm wondering if Nightlife will interest me at all. Is it just a downtown area and a few new abilities such as being able to scope the room (and of course lots of new items)? Thanks all
Nightlife added the chemistry system - so my sims can now tell me who they prefer to date! I rely a lot on this feature now, my storylines revolve around it. The vampires are fun to play also, with a few minor annoyances. You can change them back to human with a potion if you wish. The restaurants alone make the downtown area worth it, and it works so much more smoothly than hot date did. Hot Date did have one advantage, and that was the meal took longer and relationships rose more quickly, it seems. You could invite someone to eat and be good friends by the end of the meal by just sitting there talking. You have to work harder for it in Nightlife, plus the dates are timed. However, no one gets stuck in a booth now! If someone is in their way, they just jump over them. Nightlife also added cars, which I don't know how I ever lived without. We're being cautioned now to use the taxi in OFB since there's a bug with using the car, and it's agonizing having to wait for the taxi. I love my cars!
From the OFB guide, somethings that were introduced in NL come with installing OFB like chemistry/attraction, turn-on, turn off's and restaurants. It doesn't mention anything about the cars or the NL clothes, hair, etc. so I don't think you would get those. If you can afford to and your system allows get both. If you install NL at a later date, I do think you would have to uninstall OFB first though.
I'm not sure but from what others have said installing them in order is probably safest. And NL gives you downtown, which you can later use as businesses to own when you get OFB. Of course your sims will need to be rich, or you will need to cheat. Those properties are expensive! I don't know if you can "go on date" if you don't have NL, and that adds a really fun dimension to the game, in addition to the things PlayLives mentioned.
The bad thing about foruming is that I hear horror stories about glitches and such. I'm relieved that I'm waiting to get OFB. I think my bf is going to send me a copy though, whee! But yeah, if you want to experience the Sims fully you might want to buy Nightlife, then OFB. The vampires, the cars, and the Downtown are really nifty. I'm assuming that OFB also has the inventory system as well, since people would be purchasing items from community lots?
No, I meant that if you install OFB without NL, you won't get cars b/c they were introduced with NL. I don't have a problem using cars with OFB.
Don't use a car to visit a community lot that is owned by another sim because there is a bug. This is a real bug and should not be ignored. See the Known Bugs thread and pay attention to it! It wasn't made sticky for no reason!!
Sorry...I sorta ignore that thread because I don't have OFB yet, and I figured I'd read it once I got it.
I have yet to encounter this car bug. And I've been deliberately tempting fate by always driving to my community lots, too. It knows I hunt it and hides in fear.
As well it should. I haven't encountered it, either. I did have problems opening one lot right after the install but I can't remember if they had a renu-u-thingy or not. Haven't checked in on a couple of my sims yet. Suppose I should do that!
