downloads made my game hang...help! Hello... finally got some time off from work and spent a whole day downloading extra goodies from parsimonious and aroundthesims2 sites, put the furniture in their own subfolders in the downloads folder, and all fashion, hair etc in the downloads folder (documents/eagames/TheSims2/downloads) and installed all new floor, walls etc. ... started up my game and clicked to enter Pleasantville... the game hangs... i have not been able to get into the game since =0( I have a feeling that one (or more) of the downloaded files is corrupted... but how do I find out which one? I had a similar problem when playing The Sims (1), but at least at that time I could still play the game and will only hang when I use the downloaded "corrupted" object so I just remembered what I used and did not use it again. Is there some way around this other than a full reinstallation?... please help. btw i am on a Dual 2.3GHz G5 1.5GB DDR SDRAM running on Mac OS X ver10.4.5
okay, I'm no mac expert, and I'm assuming that you are running a mac because you posted in the mac forum. I am thinking that there may be a compatibility problem with designs made for pc, and running them on mac. there are sites that are mac based, but you really have to search for them. what do you think? you may need to start a thread about favorite download sites for mac.
thanks =0) never crossed my mind that the downloads were PC or Mac specific. thanks for the heads up. Will test it out. thanks again!
Yes, unfortunately, a lot of Objects (furniture, etc) do not work very well on a Mac, so I generally avoid them. If there is one that you ABSOLUTELY MUST HAVE, you can try it out, but I would only add one or two object downloads at a time to see if they work. As far as hair styles, clothes and goes, I haven't had any trouble with those - as long as you make sure you also dowload any meshes. And I've also never had a problem with walls or floors...
how do you download sims 2 extras? i know where you find sims 2 extras and it appears I've downloaded them but when I play the game there's nothing new. the downloads just look like a blank piece of paper, is that what they're meant to look like? is there a certain place i'm meant to put them? i've just made my own folder in the sims 2 folder and called it downloads - that's where i've put them. does it have something to do with stuffit, bodyshop & zipping? i've looked this up on google but can only find how to use downloads for pcs. if you know what to do, please reply, i'm so confused!
Hi Nikki, I can't help much because I don't have a Mac. Make sure that are subscribed to this thread so that you get an email the moment someone replies. (See the Thread Tools button at top of page.) Donwloads do have to be unzipped and should then be placed in a folder called Downloads within your save games folders. In Windows this is in My Documents but what that is in a Mac is something you're more likely to know. Secondly. If have downloaded recolors of objects then you will almost certainly need a small item called the Color Enabler Package CEP Get it from here: http://sims.ambertation.de/cep.shtml (there is a separate Mac version) Thirdly. Many clothes are made for new meshes (ones not made by Maxis) ... make sure when downloaded clothing that you are also getting any needed meshes Hope this is some help
