Please Help - my game keeps crashing,no matter what! Ive included the dxdiag info too

    1. Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2800+, MMX, 3DNow, ~2.1GHz
    2. System Memory: 1024MB RAM
    3. Windows Version: XP
    4. Free Hard Disk Space: 662MB
    5. Total Hard Disk Space: 1128MB
    6. DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)
    7. Display Adapter: RADEON 9200 LE Family (Microsoft Corporation)
    8. Display Driver Name and Version Number & date: ati2dvag.dll, version 6.14.0010.6462 (English)
    9. Approximate Total Video Memory:128MB
    10. Game Detail: The Sims 2 CD + University + Nightlife + Open for Business
    11. Nature of problem:
Ever since I have installed Nightlife my game has started crashing. Sometimes when I just place a house on the neighborhood screen and sometimes when I am on buy mode or building a family.
When the game crashes the screen goes black and my monitor says No Signal Input but I can still hear the CPU running the game as the music still carries on so the game obviously doesnt freeze.
When I play my game the graphics go choppy mainly when I highlight objects and in the troubleshooting manual that comes with the game says that this indicates drivers need to be updated. So I went on Control Panel and Devices and let Microsoft look automatically for updates for all my drivers. I increased my RAM to 1GB by buying 2 512MB memory sticks to put in the CPU in replace of my 200 something ones. I have increased my virtual memory to maximum too. I have also tried decreasing pixels and turning graphics to low on the Sims game but my game still keeps crashing!
However when I am not building, buying, making families and just playing the Sims game with a family even though the graphics are still choppy when the mouse pointer highlights objects, the game will run fine for hours.
    Please Help!

Sorry to hear about your problems Helena. The problem sounds a bit like a display card malfunction. Its cooling fan may be burned out and it might be shutting down (explains why you can hear the rest of the game running.

Those disc sizes you quoted at 4 & 5 above are probably the page file specs - the page file is your virtual memory space reserved on the hard drive. Your hard drive will be a lot lot bigger than just megabytes. Open my computer and hover your mouse over local disc c: it should tell you the free space in GB as well as the total size ... though I don't think lack of space is the trouble.

If the machine is under warranty contact the guarantee provider. If not you need to take advice concerning finding out how to tell if the fan has burned out, before looking into the cost of repair or replacement ....

Helena have you tried turning your security system off and all background tasks before you start playing as that might be causeing some problems well anyway that worked for me when i had your problem.
    hope it works soon!!!

Sim2 Rox, please check the posting date before replying. This one was from back in April...more than likely they have fixed it or aren't around anymore. I noticed someone else also closed a thread you resurected that was over a year old. Please just watch the dates before posting. Thanks.
