Just for Fun: What do you think Sims 3 would look like? Ignoring the fact that you'll need a brand new computer to run it, what do you think Sims 3 might look like? For one thing, I think the sims themselves are going to be so realistic, they'll be frightening. I'm already approaching that with some sims in my current game. I hope Maxis includes a middle age, and perhaps a preteen one as well. Right now both of those transitions are a bit jarring. Different heights and body types. Light brown hair. Asian skin. Black, or very dark brown, eyes. Weather is something everyone keeps asking for, not sure how feasible it is, but it would be cool. But most important to me is, it would be great to have more compassionate sims. That's what's missing from this game, for the most part. I'd like my sims to be able to sit with their arms around each other (not just romantically involved sims), hold hands while they walk, cheer each other up, hold the baby while doing other things, have funerals, give presents, things like that. And the flipside of that, too. Shake each other when they're angry, throw a temper tantrum, kick someone's car, steal things from sims they don't like (not just gnomes). Forgive their spouses for cheating the first time, you know, like a finger shake or a cold shoulder for a while but not a relationship-ending thing. Get mad at the right person when an innocent person is flirted with. Approve or disapprove of their teenager's date. Hold surprise parties. What would you like to see?
Haha yeah the first thing i thought when I saw the title was 'yeahh so delete everything off my computer first..' lol i really agree with your ideas about having more compassionate sims, the sims 1 had the ability to cheer people up and give gifts and I don't like how you can go out and buy things but can't give them to anyone.
Well, with the forgiving your spouse after cheating with someone, I'd say it's pretty darn realistic right now. I know if I'd caught my hypothetic husband cheating on me, I wouldn't be all that eager to get back together with him.
You're right, to a certain degree. I just think there's a big difference between a little flirt and full-on smoochies, is all.
Yeah hating your friend that your husband, lets use the word 'drunkingly', hits on isn't fair, because it wouldn't be her fault. And I do know a handful of people who are (eventually) forgiving of their cheating boyfriend/girlfriend and end up hating the person that they did it with, but married spouse is different. Well...it would certainly be very complicating to create all these things in the game, it's to complicated in reality
Well, with Nightlife the sim is furious with her husband and the person he cheated on you with for only a few days, and after that you can work on building up the relationship again.
Yes, Michelle. I was thinking along those lines. I remember talk of headgear you'd wear giving you the impression you were right inside whatever game you were playing. (Maybe it's still around and being used by the high tech geeks.) Imagine putting on goggles and finding yourself inside one of those little empty sim heads, looking out of their eyes, walking around in their neighborhood. They'd have to slow down the change clothes routine, though, because I get dizzy easy. That would be Sim3, a serious blurring of the lines between RL and Game Life. And as SBW said, the realism of the sims would take your breath away. It does already. Weather and additional relationship animations such as SBW also mentioned could be added to Sims2 with an expansion pack. I don't think weather would be so hard to handle. I've found hacks for rain and lightening which work well enough for brief use. There are some bugs to be worked out. But hey, if we can land sims...er...men...on the moon... As for the compassionate animations, animations have been improved with each expansion to Sims2 so I think we shouldn't have to wait for Sims3 for that. And for pete's sake, if they could give gifts in Sims1 what's stopping them from doing that in Sims2? And walking along holding hands? I'd so love to see that.
Actually the "virching" concept is likely (IMO) to be the next big thing. The Nintendo Wii with its motion detection hand controller is a sign that the techno-hurdles are getting easier to solve. The headsets can already be easily mass-produced but the limitations of the technology are rooted in Lynet's worry about motion sickness versus user-safety/product liability. Consider the problems of realism in "virtually walking" around a virtual environment. If your legs aren't moving you won't feel "there" ... if they do move you're gonnna be apt to walk into walls (or off cliffs :eek) ... or else you're going to need fairground-sized contraptions as your virching hardware. In the long run, virtual reality will always require a trade off between the possible and practical in all three social contexts: economic, convenience and -- arguably the most important -- experiential (meaning: how [much more] realistic and how much fun is it ... compared to a 2D screen-based adventure?) I suspect that while we wait for technology to catch up with demand the first and most successful virtual reality games will be more like Pacman than Half Life. Meanwhile, I hope there will be a TS3 and that it utilises the newer and faster chips to give players a richer and more deeply involving experience -- for example: intelligent free-will based much more on character and personality that cannot be turned off. But mostly I like the whole virtual reality idea. Here's my toast to Will Wright's proud release, toward the end of the decade, of The Virches Though one has to wonder what the modder community will come up with when not only the code can be modified but also the virching hardware ... the mind boggles Virch/Virching was used (maybe even coined?) by the cyberpunk novelist Bruce Sterling
If there is going to be a Sims 3 I think that it would be GREAT if we could give our sims freckles, moles, and birthmarks. Also I would like to see their hair "grow" and they can decide if they want a haircut.
I was thinking of ideas like that last night. I would like to see sims randomly sneeze or hiccup! Especially the toddlers...how cute would a hiccuping toddler be! LOL. If they can make them burb or fart every once in a while like they do now, then they should be able to make those two things happen. I love the idea of letting the hair grow. And the freckles, moles and birthmarks. I downloaded Heleane's freckles and moles already and use them quite often.
Hmmm... I'm probably mistaken, but I'm pretty sure I've seen an elder male sim sneeze. It was at the Desert Dorms, the old guy was a cook(?) or something, he was wearing an apron, and he cooked pancakes and made cereal. At first I thought he was dying, no jokes. I haven't had a sim die yet (gulp) so I wasn't sure. His eyes closed and he kind of grimaced and yeah, he sneezed a few times. Now I have to go and catch up on everyone's sim stories Oh, and for Sims 3, it would be so cool if you could put on those goggles like those found in the sims 1 and walk around! And other sims had... surfaces sort of, boundaries, like skin, so you could pick up a sim toddler the way you would pick up a RL toddler (not like a robot), and your hands wouldn't go through their head...
Was he sick? I'd like to see them sneeze after they sniff flowers or something like that. I've never had any of my sims sneeze randomly.
I don't think he was sick.... I can's be sure though. He was a NPC, so I couldn't check his motives or anything. He had just made pancakes, if that helps. I agree though, that would be nice for them to hiccup etc. What about allergic reactions? Hmmm....
