There are a few different answers to your question (bear in mind that I am a Mac user). If you asked this question a few months ago, I would say "Yes." But, now that Apple has switched to Intel processors, there are a few more options.

    A. Bootcamp If you have a copy of WindowsXP that is unregistered, you can buy an Intel-based Mac and install WindowsXP on it through Apple's "Bootcamp" program. What this does is it allows you to dual-boot your Mac instead of relying on virtualization, which was the only option in PowerPC days. Oh, by the way.... if you install a copy of WindowsXP on the Mac that is already registered, it's piracy, and is illegal if it's not licensed for multiple PCs. Don't do it. ;)

    B. Wait. There are some promising things out there which may offer native Mac OS X support for Windows Only applications. At the moment, only unintensive programs such as Microsoft Office are supported... but only time will tell.

    C. Buy your game for Mac. I know that it's expensive and is probably the least desirable of these options, but you can buy your games again for Mac.

    D. Keep your PC for games. To me, this option makes the most sense, and it's what I did. My Mac is my primary machine, while the PC is just for what the Mac can't do. It's definitely the cheapest--it doesn't require the purchase of any sort of special software.

Are you a college student? If you are, Apple offers some good educational discounts. But if you're going to buy a Mac and you intend to run The Sims 2, you will get the best results if you choose the iMac (ensure that you do not buy the one that was released for students at only $899--the graphics card is integrated and non-upgradeable) or the MacBook Pro. At this point in time, they are the only two offerings by Apple with non-integrated video cards.

Hope that helps. Once you go Mac, you'll never go back!

    -John

PS. Since this is generally a Macintosh topic, I'm moving it to the Sims 2-Mac forum. If you have any more quesitons regarding TS2 for Mac, we'll be more than happy to help there. :)

Sims2 Titles not made for MAC?!

    Hello,

I'm just trying to verify that there are some Sims2 titles that are only made for Windows boxes... my daughter has asked for Sims2 glamor life, the holiday fun-pack, and the family fun stuff for Christmas, but I can't find them for mac.

Am I just looking in the wrong places, or is it really the case that these are not made for macintosh users? Also, can anyone recommend a URL where I could look to quickly find a list that would tell me definitively which ones are pc only OR mac available?

    Thanks very much!

Aspyr Media is the company that licenses EA Products to be ported over for Mac. Whether they choose to undertake that task of porting over stuff packs is totally up to them.

Check out their website to see what Sims 2 titles are out there.

Yes - Aspyr is the place to go to find out what EA Games have been ported over for the Mac. Also, Amazon.com has a specific section just for Mac games and software.

Unfortunately, for your current purposes, none of the "Fun Packs" (Sims2 glamor life, the holiday fun-pack, or the family fun stuff for Christmas) have been ported over for the Mac.

I'm not sure about this: Can you use PC expansion packs (like University, Teen Style Stuff, Bath&Kitchen Stuff, IKEA Home Stuff etc.) for Mac?

    Necrothreadia is bad!

No, you will need to buy the special Mac versions of each EP.
