having a blast

    having a blast

Just wanted to say I'm having a blast doing the Asylum challenge. I have Krazy Louie Louie and his inmate pals, Hysteria, OCD, Psycho, DSM-4, Killer, Frankie, and Neurotic. Frankie just won't take his gorilla suit off and the others tend to walk around in their underwear.

It seemed too complicated at first but there's actually not much to do - you're only taking care of one person and the others are a kick to watch. We had a fire the first day my controllable Sim was at work and of course the others were just nuts and no one called the fire department. I just had to sit and watch it burn until he got home. The best part is watching them deal with aspiration failure - I've never seen anyone in Knowledge Aspiration failure before! Funny. Or Fortune failure; I've got two of those.

We'll see how it turns out! It's a little like some of the other big families I've played - watch and see what happens.

I cheated on mine. I hate money sims. I'm not a big fan of money for its own sake. So I changed my active sim to romance and moved the toilet, sink and shower to three separate rooms.

So technically I just lost the challenge but it was getting boring, and what's the point?

I've got two ghosts. At least they're fun. I'm starting to feel bad for my noncontrolled family sim, who spends all day cuddling her sack of flour. She seems like she'd be nice. The other women, not so much ... the guy, nicknamed crazy chef guy because he always wears that hat, seems OK too. Maybe I'll try to befriend him.

So, my sim's new LTW is 20 simultaneous lovers. So far she's bagged Joe Carr and is going for Dina Caliente (Nina? The redhead).

Wish me luck. One and a half down, eighteen and a half to go. And I have to time it right because that double bed's always in use.

Edited to say, OMG I LOVE your names.

This challenge seems intriguing, but I'm not really sure if I want to make a bunch of people for the sole purpose of watching them go insane. Would it be legal to teleport some townies in there for patients? :D

    What a great idea, Chee-Z.

I've been so aching to try this challenge and even copied the rules somewhere so that I could do it later. Maybe I should try it tonight and give my story a little rest. Rules, by the way, are always meant to be broken, aren't they? ;) Otherwise, what's the fun of being all grown up.

My Asylum lot got really glitched up, but I persevered, and got a score of 268! Yay! At the beginning it was really fun, but towards the end the only reason I kept playing was because I was writing a challenge story. :( It does get a little boring, but I was really happy with my score.

Alas, a happy ending was not to be. OCD Louie Louie loved to cook, and in the attempt to cook two meals at once (one on the counter while the mac-and-cheese was already boiling) managed to start a fire just as my controllable Sim left for work. I couldn't stop him and I had to watch the fire burn for HOURS. Lost the stove, the counter, the sink, the easel, and OCD, Neurotic, Psycho and DSM-4 as well. What a mess. I thought Krazy would be upset when he came home but he was just tired and didn't feel like cleaning up. I had to eliminate most of the beds and chairs, so he had to sleep on the floor. Now he's pretty depressed and everyone else is hungry. I'm so sad. What kind of asylum doesn't have smoke alarms? MAN.

I think you can replace things you lose due to burglary, repo man, or fire. Or is it just repo man?

Anyway, my condolences to the Louie Louie clan.

I tried this for awhile last night but none of my nuts did anything interesting at all. There were a couple of fires but I had my controllable sim call the fire department both times and the fireman showed up before anyone was killed.

The house is small and even though I did random-everything for personalities and aspirations they all get along, watch TV, paint or play chess. The fire caused some to collapse (three at once getting helped by the invisible doctor :) .) One guy who is apparently a fortune sim wrings his hands, worrying a good bit, so I assume he's getting into the red zone.

I used the uni dorm shower and the toilet in a stall setup. Less stress in the bathroom that way. Even so, a couple of sims wet themselves regularly even if no one else is in the bathroom. They're pretty stupid. Gets a little crowded, though, when everyone wants to take a shower after a fire.

I called the family 'Nut' and named a couple of them Acorn, Brazil, Coco, Walt. After that I got impatient and I don't recall what I named them.

Anyhow, I started getting a little bored so I exited and went back to building sets for my story.

I've found that teleporting disliked townies into the house to be an interesting twist.

Yvonne McCay is living in a crackerbox house with Abji...Abjee...err..., Goopy GilsCarbo, Benjamin Long, Kennedy Cox, Christy Stratton, Sandy Bruty and Andrea Hogan (who actually sleeps in her underwear!).

    So far, I have had:

Goopy and Kennedy lose their jobs in a "roll dice" random card game---when the career card pops up, if you roll odds, you pick choice one, if you roll evens, you pick choice two. Kennedy went into aspiration failure. :D
Sandy, Andrea and Benjamin got promotions.
    Abji...Abjee...whoever got a demotion.

    Several people pass out
    Several people pee themselves
Several people bogart the chess set and piano
Several smelly people that refuse to use the shower
Several fights (Benjamin is a mean guy, fought with Yvonne on the first day  )

No fires surprisingly, and they actually cook group meals.

So, yeah, I replaced the kitchen appliances but there's just no replacing my fruitcake Sims. The best part during the EIGHT-HOUR FIRE!!! was watching the thought balloons. There's seven nutjobs (wearing mohawks, gorilla suit, grass skirt and so on) leaping up and down in hysterics, and then periodically they all stop and their thought balloons fill with pictures of how much all the other Sims stink! And twice everyone except the blonde bimbo in purple undies stood stil and thought about the blonde bimbo in purple undies. While the house is burning down. Then suddenly they all start leaping about in pointless screaming. I hear that some offices are like this.

    LOL, Jiko.

Chee-Z, only one sim is supposed to have a job ... and I've always hated Benjamin Long. And Kennedy. And Goopy. You'd think they would have made one or two nice NPCs, but so far I haven't met a single one from the original game who was. The expansion NPCs are occasionally decent people.

You need to give it a couple of days before things start breaking down, Lynet. But I have two mean sims who are always beating up on each other, or on the nice family sim, and almost no one gets along well, so maybe that helps with the interest, though not much.

I can only play this challenge in short bursts. It does get boring.

I had a sim pass out in front of the shower/tub combo, for eight hours. My sim narrowly escaped wetting herself. No one would use the bathroom, even though the toilet was clear. Argh.

That's when I decided to cheat and make separate tub, toilet and sink rooms. When the sink was in the kitchen my sims would practically die of hunger if someone needed to take a sponge bath.

    Sims is sooo stupid.

Yeah that's the only flaw in teleporting Sims to be patients is that they have jobs. And yet I can't control the patients to the phone to make them lose their jobs...so I either have to prevent them from going to work or play the chance card game so that they lose their jobs. So far I have 3 without jobs now...I guess I could lock the front door but that'd be against the rules too...

    LOL, Chee-Z, that's hilarious.

Maybe you could control them just once and have them quit their jobs? But your way is funnier ...

After another death in the Louie Louie Home (we're down to three Sims, one bed, one chair), the Health Department put them on suspension for a few days. Meanwhile, I'm trying again at the Symptoms Complex (Multiple, Rare, Common, Chronic, Alarming, Unusual, Typical and Acute), things are going well for now. It's a bleak place - bare wood floors and only small porthole windows. I'm concerned about the four patients with Family Aspiration. We'll see how it goes. No fires, please!

Maybe it's my gift, but my Sims start acting nuts right away. Typical Symptoms began talking to the TV right away (thought balloons, friend smiles and all). Omigod a fire! On the first day! Now everyone stinks.

Wow, I never had any sim talk to the TV. So many interactions I've never seen ... guess I should try not to be so nice to my sims all the time. :D

I love your names. Mine are just alphabetical. Yours are truly creative.

I thought about doing a second asylum, maybe a dungeon in a castle or something like that ... not sure if I can be bothered. I enjoy hearing about yours, though!

Went to a different household for a change. How startling to see the many strange in-patients of my two Asylums walking down the sidewalk, stopping by to visit!

It's a rule in Asylum that you can't let the patients go on dates or leave the house. So I chose not to socialize with them, but it would have helped a lot with those in Romance, Pleasure and Family Aspiration failure. Technically correct but seemed to be a cheat anyway.

Yeah, my inmates wander by my "teen raising three sets of twins" house all the time, but I always diss them, because it seems like cheating to let them socialize. They're supposed to be in their nice warm asylum, after all. :D

I figure their keepers just have a hard time keeping them where they belong ...

I worked in a nursing home once upon a time in RL, and occasionally an elderly patient would walk away. I found one of them myself, walking along the highway. He was completely confused about where he was, and I persuaded him to get into the car so I could drive him back.

So sure, asylum inmates may get loose. ;)

LOL - That reminds me of when my sister worked in a nursing home. There was one old guy who was constantly wandering off, so finally, they put a special security beam on the elevators, so he wouldn't be able to get out. (He was very short, and the beam was very high.

Well, it didn't take him long to figure it out - all he had to do was take along his bedpan, wave it up high over his head in order to trip the beam, and off he'd go, bedpan in hand, to wander the neighborhood!
