   this might seem like a dumb question...
   
   but i'm really relatively new to the sims 2. my question is, do only the sims you play with age, or do all sims age regardless of whether you use them or not?

   Only the sims you are playing at the time will age. To have all sims in a neighborhood age at the same rate you need to play each house in rotation.
