    Direct 3D error

Hi, gotta problem. The actual Sims 2 game works fine, but when I try to load up the body shop I get this error:

    Direct 3D returned error: D3DERR_INVALIDCALL!

Then the program closes. I've installed the patch and reinstalled directX but I get the same error. My systemn specs are:

    Operating system: XP proffesional (laptop)
    Systemn manufactor: Dell
    Memory: 256 RAM
    Proccesor: Intel celeron 1.4Ghz
    Hardrive: 40Gb
    DirectX: Version 9.0
    Sound card: Sigma Tel audio
Video Card: Mobile intel (R) 915GM/GMS,910GML Express

Thanks in advance for any help :)

    The Solution

O.K apparently there are only 3 ways of getting aroud this.

Solution 1: upgrade video card (expensive so not recommended)

Solution 2: Download the previous version of bodyshop before Sims 2 was released (not recommended because the program is very, very limited)

Solution 3: Buy nightlife or a later expansion (so not university) which includes an updated version of bodyshop (recomended)

I think mods should add the whole Direct 3D error business to the FAQ because it seems a fairly frequent question on the forums which is never, usually, got to the bottom of.

    Ah!

This is the same problem I'm having! I never had this isue before....It seems ever since I downloaded custom content this happened.....
It worked just fine on my old laptop, so it can't be the game........ or my video card, judging by your specs it's not your card either

Did you uninstall and reinstall the game without restoring your files?

Just because the game has no problems *doesn't* mean that BodyShop won't have problems. For some reasons, it's not friendly with some computers or some other programs that people might have.

Homecrafter seems to have lower specs than the game, Bodyshop may have odd preferences.

The downloadable version of bodyshop will no longer work with the game. It's been changed a lot since that version (which was downloadable for those of us who wanted to make things before TS2 was actually released way back in 2004.)

Homecrafter has just one version and that is available on the official site.
