Hm...that wasn't really a preview so much as it was some kind of introductory "Well, we're thinking of doing this," ad, and it didn't look very official either--Maxis usually likes using flashy sounds and effects, and a clean white background. The font is usually less academic looking and more zany. Also, all they had were clips of TS2. The only thing I saw that was new was the background of the CAS--ceilings?

There have been some rumors going around that Maxis is thinking of starting a TS3. I don't see what the point of that ad was, though, since they were all just clips of TS2... Thanks for the link, anyway. It was interesting. I kind of got a "looking back on all that we've done" vibe.

I wouldn't believe that honestly. It seems to be more of a collage on the previous Sims 2 videos all merged together to form a promo on The Sims 3.

Mind you, the projected date's been slated for 2009 too :)

It was cute and clever but not, I think, of a level of quality that a giant game company like EA would put out. They have seriously BIG bucks to spend on any promos.

but the speculation that s3 will border on real life... well,:scratchchin: , for one thing it means I'll need a faster computer.

I am intrigued to know how Sims 3 will be different from Sims 2. Other than more customisable features on the sims, ie shoes, jewellery, hair accessories, bags etc I can't see what else can be improved. Maybe there could be hotkeys for sims 'saying' certain phrases ingame and the other sims respond to it? Weather is already gonna happen soon. Maybe the sims can go to work with their sims, maybe there will be more careers? I haven't read anything about Sims 3 so have no idea at all.

There may be a sims 3? OMG i would be totally excited about that....it would be an absolute hoot to see the next version..and even better more improvements=D only problem is, will this game work on our computers then as the graphics will be better.
I do think that there are SMALL things like making cigarettes, the sgraphics on the actual sim just that bit better, although not much. Then again i am basically meaning, there may be a lot more selection of items.objects etc..i wouldnt sya imporvements on anything are needed. only a couple. But mainly more realistic stuff should be perhaps usedin the next.

okay...maybe I didn't get what you meant by Cigarettes... but if you meant the ones you can smoke, then I don't think they could do that and continue to keep a teen rating. That and I think that a lot of parents wouldn't allow their kids to get a game that had bad influences in it.

Cigarettes in a game would seriously shock me and I would refuse to endorse any game that adds such a feature. I doubt that Maxis/EA would ever include that in the Sims games.

Haha i guess so...but i am grown up literally now...but i guess there are people to think of.
But depends on the age of the teen...as 16 and over is fine to see that sort of thing.

Actually, I think that's inappropriate for all teens. You have to consider the wishes of the teen's parents, who probably won't want their children to be encouraged by what their sims are doing. If Maxis put smoking and that sort of thing in the game, they'd have to change the rating to Mature Audiences only, since parents would probably file lawsuits against them for saying teens are allowed to play games with that.

Yep suppose so..but that does not include me as i would never smoke anyway. I am grown up besides, can be seeing that srt of things! well i am not a child..but i agree with younger ones, now that you have said!

There have been a lot of fan-made "TS3 commercials" lately.

EAMaxis has talked about The Sims 3 since *before* The Sims 2 came out. At the beginning they told us that TS2 would probably have 6-7 EPs before they would bring out another basegame. That would put the next basegame (TS3, that is) to be some time in 2008 or 2009.

Some of the retail and fan sites have started talking about TS3 because they like to discuss this sort of thing in advance to get people interested. So, it's not unexpected that they'd start talking about it now, since "2008" is really only a little over a year from now.

I can think of some things which would probably come in a new version.

    Speculation:
Improved game engine (especially game physics. It's not just for first person shooters.)
Able to have more detailing of neighborhood view from the working lot.
Able to visit the lots to visit other Sims.
    Better housebuilding tools.
Apartments (or at least being able to build houses flush with the neighboring ones so that you can have brownstone/townhouse style "apartments".
Able to start with a small lot and "buy" adjoining lots so that lot sizes and shapes are more customizable.
Improved 3 D appearance of Sims (more realistic.)
Not only have a homecrafter (walls/floors) and a bodyshop but a way to make clothing meshes, as well as meshes and recolors of objects so that it's easier to make your own custom content. And make it so that you can have the game and the tool running at the same time (so that you can try things out right away and make sure they work the way you want them to work.)
Able to make terrain changes and lay additional roads after you've made a neighborhood.

I suspect that if I sat here a while longer, I could come up with more things that I might want to have in the game which would be possible with a new TS game.

The ESRB doesn't "depend on the teen" for how they allow or disallow things. They look at how a reasonable parent would like the game to be so that they don't have to worry about "bad influences."

Already EA/Maxis has really pushed the evelope as far as they can with TS2. That's why we SimMasters really stomp on things as fast as we find people who try to push it further.

Games have to be very careful to keep their market. The Sims is a good seller because it's not a game which is restricted by age or gender. The higher the rating, the fewer members there are who can buy the game. So, EA/Maxis works hard to keep the game rating T for Teen so that they don't get the likes of Hilary Clinton or Jack Thompson trying to get it so that only over 18 year olds can buy the game.

It nearly happened, folks, and all because a "cheat" that was in the game for the game developers to use and wasn't taken out. Maxis had to remove the ability to use a code for censor blur removal or be labeled M for Mature. That was done starting with Nightlife because people had figured out the code and were posting things without the blur.

Oh ya that is what i mean. When i said that is not me, its because im sensible already and my parents dontmind as they know that. But yes i agree other teens are worse unfortunately.

    honestly i dont want a sims 3.
    3 reasons,
    Take up more disk space.
I dont want to buy it and the new expansion packs.
i got so used to TS2 i dont really want to bother with learning how to use all of the controls.

Well actually, if TS3 has more improvements from TS2, than TS2 did from TS1, I think I really will get excited for this.

The next expansion will bound to be better in some way..not much as i dont think though. But it doesnt mean that more space will be taken. And saying as this sims 2 is great already, this is all we need:)
