Crashes When Trying to Enter House/Family

I just installed the Sims 2. Everything went fine. It starts up fine. But when I click on a house or the family button it gives me a message saying the application has crashed and is now being terminated. I've read through the other threads concerning this problem, but nothing seems to work. The only difference I see between my problem and the one in most threads is that in the neighborhood view, instead of trees, three demensional astricks with the words "willowtreewillowtreewillowtree" appear.

Here are my specs according to dxdiag:

I had rolled back the driver in an attempt to make it work. I read somewhere that it could help. I'll try your link re-upgrade. Hope it works.:)

Upgraded the driver with the site you posted, no change. Still get the error trees and can't click the family tab or enter a house.

I re-installed the game. Works fine. Thank you for the suggestion.

I am having the same problem with crashing. I have Windows Vista though. Upgraded the drivor, tired the DirectX thing (I have version 10 apparently and the other version is not supported with VISTA). Any suggestions? I tried reinstalling the game.

I've found that a total uninstall/reinstall helps fix a fair whack of problems with most EA games. If a reinstall doesn't help it's your hardware or general computer configuration doing it. If this problem occurs again I'd be looking to find the source first :p

I apologize for the double post. ( I have a separate thread re: this)

I have the exact same problem, including the "willowtree" figures. I tried the suggestions offered in this thread--updating the drivers, re-installing the game--but to no avail. I really don't know what else to do, other than give up and uninstall the game for good.

My computer specs (my computer was custom-built, and is less than a week old.)
