Seasons ruined my Sim Life! I am now pushing the panic button. This is my problem. I have , Open for business, nightlife and university, and just got the new seasons. Things were going along fine until I tried to delete a tub and a crib. The game would freeze, then go to a yellow pixelated funky screen. So I took out all my many downloads, hacks, etc. etc. Thinking something was interfering. Got too excited didn't backup anything, so everything is lost. Families I had been playing for generations gone, businesses all gone, in the blink of an eye. Very sad, but I can rebuild. Since everything is gone, I thought oh well just reinstall from scratch, I'll just hang onto Seasonsa play it when we rebuild with a more powerful system. Anyway, now I'm having this problem with open for business, go to delete anything and boom back to the funky yellow screen. Specs Windows XP 512 Ram Radeon 7500 Updated driver um what else do you need to know? Any help you give me will be greatly appreciated.
My bad. Glad to see you being sanguine about the losses. A full dxdiag would be helpful in making further advices. Also maybe you could confirm that you PC plays other games without problem. My first instinct is to point to that Radeon 7500. Its not the sharpest knife in the box and it also leads me to think you're playing on a laptop. The game was never designed for budget laptops and the later expansions Pets and Seasons will not run on machines that the base game will. It therefore seems possible that Seasons has indeed cooked your display adaptor. In the meantime a full manual uninstall would be desirable before reinstalling.
My own fault! Mirelly Yup it's my own fault! I'm playing on a Pc not a laptop. Things were running very smoothly before Seasons. Open 4 business University and nightlife played fine, no problems. Seasons sounded way cool had to get it. At this point, I can wait Seasons out until the new machine is built, just want my other Sim games to work, that worked fine before. Specs processor Amd Athlon ~1.1GHZ Mem 512 382 used 867 available Direct x9.0c Radeo 7500 64.0 vid mem atidvag.dll driver version 6.14 date 2/22/05 hpw do i know if it has cooked my display adapter? and how to do manual uninstall. Sorry if this info is on the web page somewhere else i know help is annoying but I am ready to beg. All dignity is gone! Hope you can help me Mirelly to get my sims game back to what it once was. Thanks again.
Found full manual install directions This sounds pretty scary. Are there other things I can try before I this massive step?
Yeah the manual uninstall is not for the faint-hearted ... depending on how you like your analogies it is either like trying to perfomr open heart surgery or else it is like trying to change into a swim suit on crowded beach with far too many members of the opposite sex about and a towel that is one one inch longer than you are around the middle 2005!!! Man that is older than Moses' dog leash. Go get a new one immediately (There's a set of links for driver updates in the FAQ's - see in my signature ) One step at a time ... OK?
Hmmm!!! Here's the latest. Show me the nearest brick wall. I will bang my head repeatedly. Did the manual uninstall. Not too scary if you follow directions. (Mirelly, my towel did not fail me.) Sims 2 and Uni work fine. Installed Nightlife, Yup same funky yellow screen. Tested my computer on Systems requirment Lab. Yepper you guessed it: my system failed. Worked fine until Seasons though. Keep trying to update driver on the Radeon but the date never changes. I give up for today.
I'm afraid that the 7500 really is the lowest possible card for The Sims 2 original min reqs (well there was the 7200, but let's not split hairs. ) Giving up is always good, when it comes to computers. It's amazing what a fresh perspective appears through eyes that don't itch and scratch and ache. To be honest your card is probably overloading and just basically having a heatstroke moment. Have a look at the pic in this link http://www.guru3d.com/review/ati/radeon7500/ That square black thing with ATi on it is a fan to keep the gpu chip from melting down. I bet it's stopped working. In any event (and I know you don't wanna hear this) you could do with an upgrade. If you do decide to upgrade set yourself a maximum budget of $50-60 and shop around for the most MB of video (graphic) memory you can get ... you should be able to get a card with 256MB of memory for under $60. It's not worth you spending more on your computer, which is getting older by the minute. A new graphcis card will give it a new life for another couple of years ... specially if you budget to add another 512MB of main RAM ASAP as well. Computers ain't cheap to run are they?
Hey Mirelly! This is way weird! I lied I couldn't give up!! Guess what? I rolled back my vid card and now the game is working with no crashes when I delete stuff. I only updated my driver cause i couldn't stand the red flashing snow. Now I'm playing seasons with fall only. This will do until I can update. My husband and I are real computer nerds. We each have 2 computers that we built, one in my room(mine) and one in the livingroom(His). Though if I update today god knows it will be outdated tomorrow. Puters are not cheap, but are fun. I will look into the fan, cause my machine is making racing car noises that I've never heard before. I did save some old neighborhoods from way back when. Thank God not all is lost. Gonna start adding in my downloads soon, but slowly. Already miss Merola's multipainting. Will be the first thing I add back in. Signing off for real this time.
