Reputation Hi everyone. I'm new here and I don't understand this reputation stuff that is at the bottom of somebody's post (the scales). What does it do? And another thing that I've been wondering about as I've been browsing different forums. What are the green (or sometimes gray) box things under peoples avatars? It says that I am unknown on mine and I'm wondering how you get it green? (Gray never was one of my fav colors!) Thanks!
To get reputation points, someone has to give them to you. Whether good or bad it depends on your behavior on this site. If you smart off to someone's post, they might not take it kindly, and give you - rep. points. Or maybe you gave an answer that someone really appreciates, they give you + points. You are currently Unknown because you have no rep. points. That grey blotch represents someone who has no reputation given to them. if you get - points, you get a possible red blotch. If you get + points you get a green blotch. Then Unknown thing will change, as you get rep. points. For example ive gotten a red blotch, and instead of Unknown, i got demoted to Rude. Yeah, I know. You don't get to pick the color in other words. What does it do? It makes people say, "Oh wow, he must be trustworthy." Or even more fun, you can get a custom avatar.
Hey there, shocker, you pink funster, you. If you stop using hard to read pink text and centering it and promise never to do it again, on this or any other forum, I'll give you some rep.
The pink is much nicer left in the signature Rep added, but now you're going to have to earn some more by posting lots of interesting stuff. 'K?
Yupp, i will But I have another problem: I've been trying to rep this funny girl but her box thingy won't get green i think she deserves a greenbox cos she helped me out a lot in pets and uni but i dunno how to. Please help. Thanks! edit: and thanks for the rep mirelly! you rock!!
If you give rep to someone you can't give them any more until you've repped a number of other people. This is to guard against "spamming" ... you get a message to tell you you need to spread your generosity around a bit more. Giving rep is cumulative. It takes more than one donation to make a green square.
Will you please explain why sissler, muffin_tacos, and you are all using the same computer? And you're right. I do rock.
you add rep by clicking on the scales in the left side of the appropriate message. a window will open and ask you to approve, disapprove and make a comment if you want.
As far as I know reps can't be hacked. All the same I am puzzled and embarrassed by the higness of mine ... Afterthought ... for anyone wandering by and still pondering this issue. I have clocked up 4500 odd posts at the time of writing this. A great many of those have been attempts to help someone. Just think on this: you're not likely to gain credit with questions. Questions are aeasy. You start with How/why/what/etc. and let someone else do all the work. Come up with answers and watch your rep take off like a takey-offy thing. That's another way to get rep. If you don't have the answer make up one that will make someone smile ... if their grin lasts long they might click those little scales.
