With strict discipline, dear Wootster ;)

Seriously ... enter booProp controlPets on in the cheat console. There's another command as well that aloows you to cancel a pet's free-will actions, but I can't remember that one offhand.

The one you need to cancel the actions is:

    boolprop petactioncancel true

maybe i will try that. its so annoying when the pets keep challenging each other or going near the stray pets that linger around your lot because they normally get attacked by the strays. by the way is there a way to stop stray pets coming to you door and barking

To stop pets challenging each other, scold them for it (should give you the option to scold pet for being hostile) and praise them everytime you see them be friendly to each other (and other animals & Sims). It's the same with everything...praise the good, scold the bad.

i know i do that but they still do it for some reason even when they have fully learnt that skill

Aggressive pets will always be a bit aggressive even after being trained to be calmer.

The only pet I have lost so far was a timid cat that finally left after getting fed up of the aggressive dog.

Yeah if they are aggressive they'll always be a little aggressive towards others, but you can do things like lock the gates so no pets can enter or leave and only allow the pets to use the house doors to get off the property (for work or walks), then make sure all their chew toys and bowls are in the backyard so they have little interest in going out the front (helps if you punish them for peeing near the letterbox and praise them for using a tree in the backyard instead). Then they'll not confront strays as often, which will stop a lot of fights. Within the house itself it really is just a matter of scolding the pets for showing any sign of aggression and praising them everytime they're friendly.

The dogs in my signature, I created them to be aggressive, but I have very few (if any...depending on the household) problems with them getting into fights. Just have to be consistant, even after they've supposedly learned the skill.
