    Happy Halloween, Everyone!

I'm having a trick or treat party at my house tonight. Expecting lots of ghosts and ghoulies at my door!

What are you all doing? :stirthepot: :ghost: :hyper:

I was invited to a co-worker's party, but she hasn't e-mailed the directions yet, and I get to leave work an hour early today (in about 10 minutes). Oh well. I'll check my e-mail when I get home. If she hasn't sent the directions, I guess I'm staying home. My puppy will be so excited.

We spent a quiet night at home, answering the door a few times. There are very few children living around here. :(

We gave away a LOT of candy. Sacha came over and went trick or treating with Witch Baby and me, among other people. Our street is very popular (no cars allowed, so prime trick or treating territory!). I'd guess we had well over 100 kids.

    Would you agree, Sacha?

I would believe it! There were a LOT of kids coming to your door! By the way, you make a mean bowl of chili! Very good!

Speaking further of Chili...yesterday, SBW and I had lunch together. She brought her fab Vegetarian Chili, and I brought my Smooth-as-Silk Chili...It was like a Mini Chili Fest! Yum!!! :D

The chili was pretty mild as it was for everyone, including children. I make veggie chili when I invite everyone, because several of my friends and family are vegetarians. It has black beans, kidney beans, onions, green pepper, red pepper and corn. If kids aren't going to eat it I add hot chili peppers as well.

But the secret ingredient to any good chili is cumin. Chili powder is secondary to the almighty cumin.

I serve it over rice with grated marble jack cheese, sour cream, salsa and srachi (sp?) on the side.

Sacha's smooth as silk chili is yum-my! It has chocolate in it. :yummy:

LOL. I keep meaning to make a chilli with chocolate in it (I wonder why we differ on the required number of Ls ;) )

I totally agree with the cumin. I remember my sister asking me taste her veggie chilli (she does a mean line in a roasted vegetable chilli since she gave up meat), and I asked if she had any cumin. Cautiously she added some and has raved over it since.

Have you tried adding a couple of whole green cardomon pods to rice when you cook it? It really perks up the flavour ... especially if you can obtain some decent basmati rice. (By the way basmati rice improves with age ... indians are known to keep it for a year or two to help mature its fragrance and flavour.)

I haven't had any trick or treaters since I moved in here. There's a lot of elderly people at the end of the street and I think they've been instrumental in getting our street labelled a no-go zone. Can't say I'm upset by it. In this country most of the trick or treaters are beefy great 15-16 year olds whose idea of a trick is keying your car ... or coming back at 3 am to help themselves to your Wii ....

I spent my Halloween at my friend's house. She had made the house look really spooky, even the food! It was very cool but we kept getting fake cobwebs and spiders stuck in our food. Not very nice.

It all started with me coming late to the party (as usual) and getting scared out of my skin when my friend popped out of nowhere to scare me in the dark. I almost broke Ellen's fence in the process too, during which my other friend got a funny shot of me laughing at Ellen with my way too big coat hood hanging over half of my face. :)

Chilli with chocolate in it? Never heard of that before but it sounds yummo! (Heck, anything with chocolate in it sounds yummy to me. :p)

Funny you should mention Cardomon, since my Chili Recipe also includes Cardomon, as well as Cinnamon...the whole recipe was actually kind of inspired by a Chicken Mole recipe, so you get those softer spices in to smooth out the more traditional chili spices. Then, of course, I like to add some sort of alcohol, such as a good burgundy or merlot, to add some depth...It's a rather good recipe, if I do say so myself.
