Somewhat a question and discussion.. So has you heard (well maybe) that Spore will have a server thing, were when any player that owns the game creates a new creature/city it will be put onto the server. And once you are playing your game or at some point your game will be uploaded with all the new creatures and citys, (just so everythings different) do you think we will have to pay for this? If so I would rather not have the server. Paying for a game that you already paid for would sound stupid. :banghead: And I hope Maxis learned when the tried doing it to TheSims(TheSims Online) that it failed. So hopefully they wont make us pay for it and have it be like the exchange on TheSims2 BBS. So I was just wondering if you would get it if there was a montly payment I sure hope not, and I hope they clear this up soon so if this is the case (paying mothly for the server) that I can stop waisting my time on Spore related forums and checking news. Witch in fact I am alreay addicted to. Please post your ideas. :bouncy:
Since Spore is procedural based, the files that describe your creatures and building probably won't be much larger than a kilobyte, and so it really won't be much strain on a server. Considering that your average web page is more than 20 kb large, it would actually be cheaper to host Spore than a popular website. So unless Maxis gets really greedy all of the sudden, we shouldn't be seeing a monthly fee. Monthly fees are more for MMORPGs because of the massive amount of data that needs to be streamed. Now if you could interact with other players over the internet, that would take a lot more data, and hence more money. But since everyone lives in their own universe, the files, and bandwidth, stay small.
I thought the MMO fees were to pay people to program updates and new sections in addition to server maintainence. Servers (for a large company) are fairily cheap, people (over an extended period) aren't though.
aww,, it would be a total headbanger :banghead: if there'll be monthly fees. I was also into sims online, but I wasn't aloud to buy it becaus of my parents and the FEE  But I saw that sims online was a bummer the moment it started. So I'm happy I didn't wasted my money on that.. I just hope Spore won't be like that!
