Game freezes on splash screen I need some help. I just bought The Sims 2 Deluxe and was able to install the game successfully but whenever I try to play it the game freezes on the splash screen. I've tried all the advice under the FAQs on this problem but nothing has worked. Here are my system specs: Processor: Intel Core2 Duo 2.4GHz System Memory RAM: 3 GB Windows Version: Vista Home Premium 32bit Free Hard Disk Space: 64 GB Total Hard Disk Space: 111 GB DirectX Version: came with DirectX 10 and I also installed DirectX 9 Display Adapter (Graphic/Video Card Nvidia GeForce 8600 GT Display Driver, Version Number, & date: nvd3dum.dll,nvwgf2um.dll, 7.15.0011.0138, 6/6/2007 Approximate Total Video Memory : 1 GB Game Detail: Sims 2 Deluxe DVD I should be able to play, right? I have to admit that very recently bought this new notebook and I'm not very familiar with it (I'm also not very tech-savvy). Any help with this would be very much appreciated. Thank you!
Assuming The Sims 2 is on your desktop, try this: right click on The Sims 2. In the target line, go all the way to end of the text and put in a space after the " mark. After the space type "-w" without the quotes. put in another space and type "-nosound" without the quotes. The Sims 2 should now start, if it does, then try updating your Video and Sound Drivers. Example: "E:\The Sims 2 Seasons\TSBin\Sims2EP5.exe" -w -nosound
Thanks for the help. Unfortunately, I tried both of your suggestions but they didn't work for me. When I modified the target line, the game froze even before the splash screen came up. Also, I couldn't download the driver updates from Nvidia's site and I have the most current version that Asus has available for download. I'm not sure where to go from here -- I'm totally stumped. **EDIT** I just tried again and got through the splash screen but it froze up as soon as the screen went black.
I just did a drivers search on your graphics card and it came up with this link: http://www.nvidia.com/object/winvista_x86_169.25_whql.html Before you download it, re-input your graphics card info in this page: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us to make sure it pulls up the same link for you. But as you can tell, this driver was just released.
Having Same Problem Hello, I am having the same problem.. I have slightly different specs, but am also using an asus notebook. I have installed the sims 2 deluxe dvd. It has installed fine, but when i try to start up the game it freezes on a graphic (a logo) i hear a few seconds of music then nothing, - task manager - not responding. I have spent the past 4 hours looking up forums and trying to find a solution - I have found nothing that works. My laptop is new and this is one of the first things I have installed on it so far. dxdiag ------------------ System Information ------------------ Time of this report: 12/29/2007, 20:34:25 Machine name: HOME-PC Operating System: Windows Vista Business (6.0, Build 6000) (6000.vista_gdr.071009-1548) Language: English (Regional Setting: English) System Manufacturer: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. Process ID: 9a4 Start Time: 01c849fecffca3cf Termination Time: 71 I have changed the screen res to 16bit because on the intel website it had a solution for the sims, - changing to 16bit and making the program start in a window. This did not change anything. I have installed the patch, have reinstalled my video card drive, I have installed directx 10.. None of this made any difference I dont really know what else I can do.. Hoping someone out there has a solution for me. I thought that my video card would be compataible.. perhaps its not.. Im trying to stay positive and hope that's not the reason. Havent ever played the game before, just bought it today...pretty annoying to get home and cant play it!!
