Problems with installing I got a laptop(used) as a gift about a year ago. I already had the Sims 2 installed on a different computer, but becauseof the computer running slowly(I share it with 3 other people), I wanted to instal it on the laptop. The Sims 2 I had was DVD edition, but because my laptop is a bit older I was pretty sure it wouldn't be able to read it. So I tried it and as I thought, it didn't work. So I went out to buy the CD version. It started to install fine but when it got to about 78% it said it could not instal the metal.package. Then it gave me the retry or cancel option. Of course retry didn't work, so I hit cancel. I know it's not a space issue because I have one of those Maxtor memory storage things and it has over 200 GB of memory and my laptop has a couple spare GB. Besides, now my laptop can't even read the disk. When I go to My Computer and right click the CD-drive I get a pop-up saying the disk can't be read because it was either corrupted or in a format Windows can't read. I've seen other people with similar problems but I never read anything about the disk all of a sudden not being able to be read when it was working fine before. Any advice at all would be great. I'll be kind of mad if I find out I just wasted a bunch of money.
Try cleaning the disc, reinserting it and try installing it. If you still get a missing package error, you can try to copy all of the contents off of the disc onto your computer and install. That problem does happen alot, but I don't think there is a certain solution. Just have to experiment with different things.
Good news is that I got the game to install. Bad news is that since the computer mysteriously can't read the disks anymore, I can't play becuase the game needs disk 1 to run.
