Well, W7 will start its life here on Thursday, and I hope it will be great Anyways, what will be the difference between W7 and Vista so that I could get a preview?

    The price methinks!

I saw a Best Buy flyer, saying "Pre-order your W7 copy today and get free something..." that I really did not understand. And, I was also thinking, "OK, W7 is coming, but, will it be the same as Vista wherein Microsoft Office is not pre-installed in the system? If that's the case, I'd need to buy another copy of Office 2007 to put it on W7, which actually sucks because you have to install it manually..."

I was thinking if Windows could actually have Office built in on every new W7-enabled computer...

They've left a lot of programs like internet browsers and email programs off so people could pick what they want rather than be at MS's mercy and use their stuff.

They haven't left them off, it would be hard for users to download other browsers unless there was some kind of CLI interface, just you can now disable things like IE without breaking the whole OS.

Office has never been built into Microsoft's OS unless you're using a OEM image with all the preinstalled junk on it. Office comes at a premium and is worth the premium IMO, use OpenOffice and see how long till you change back! ;) For basic notes, good old Notepad is there for plain text and Wordpad for rich text.

True, but I also go beyond Notepad and Wordpad myself: I use tables, presentations, and paragraph-editing tools myself, thus I go beyond those programs (Excel, PowerPoint, and Word) to make great documents. The thing of concern, though, is that with the release of W7, how long will its bugs be resolved and fixed because there will always be bugs for every new software is released?

Yeah I'd kinda forgot about that bit! :ducks:
Just about any software has it's bugs and is only as good as the people who fix them.
I'm sure there is free software out there that will do all those things you want .

[Steve] hehehe... see, I don't forget those wonderful Office applications. And also, it's worth anyone's budget to have those basic Office apps (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), especially if dealing with coursework in school (like me, I use all three of them often).

I have resigned from using IE and FF because I found them to be quite buggy, and even though I still use FF on other computers, you can't always run away from those annoying "pop-up" ads that just makes me go crazy! Fortunately, Chrome places its "Pop-up blocked" on the bottom of the page that just allows me to close it at my own convenience, and it's working very well for me! :D

I noticed Newegg and Tigerdirect had Windows 7 up for sale.
I'm surprised the Ultimate version was as cheap as it was.
Newegg has the best prices at the moment too!

OpenOffice will do everything you want for free Anthony. But after fighting with it and noticing it's 4am and the document has only just been completed, you will wonder why so much time was wasted. Not to mention when you boss opens the document in actual Word and everything is pushed all over the place. :p

FF with ABP + NoScript and I highly doubt you will see an ad anywhere. Chrome is slowly evolving but it really isn't anywhere near FF yet. Lets avoid talking of IE. ;)

Windows 7 (Build 7100) has little to no bugs that I have noticed. Of course there will be some that will appear after a while but there's nothing that cripples the system yet. It truly feels like an OS that's actually ready to be released to the public, more so than Vista and even XP was. This should be expected from the millions of *cough* beta testers. :p

Us Aussies really are getting ripped off this time. It's cheaper for us to import from the USA with the Aussie dollar so high. Look at this:

    USA Prices: -

    • Home Premium $199.99 ($217 AUD)
    • Pro $299.99 ($325 AUD)
    • Ultimate $319.99 ($346 AUD)

    Aus Prices: -

    • Home Premium $299.99 (+$83 AUD)
    • Pro $449.99 (+$124 AUD)
    • Ultimate $469.99 (+$123 AUD)
And then the Americans wonder why us Aussies are such pirates.

Is that the retail or oem version Flamey?
I seen one version of W7 Ultimate for $179 at the Egg.
I think it was OEM and debated on getting it but I'm not ready for install yet

[Steve] What does OEM mean? Never heard of that acronym for software...

Retail, OEM would mean I would have to buy a new system.

Ah I see now... well, I'd better get just the software since my laptop could be ready for W7, or better yet, I'll get a new laptop by the Day after Thanksgiving (US) to get a computer at a deeply discounted price.

    Hi dude,

I get Windows 7 before 2 days, hey it's really pretty.
I like all wall paper, themes, icons as well as look.. It's really good compare to Xp and Vista.

I'd better see it before I can really make comments to it... although I saw a demonstration on the BBC News, in which the interface is touch-screen, which looks fantastic to me! :D If you want the link, I'll find it for you before I edit this message.

I've seen the touchscreen stuff before and yes it is pretty damn cool looking !
A little too high tech for this old boy though!

[Steve] you're not too old to try on new technology... I'm just 21, and I'm already looking towards the future! Even though I'll turn 50, I'll do my very best to keep up with innovations because I believe we can make things better. Who knows, what if a Presidential Election can take place today and have the results around 10 minutes later for all areas of a nation?

No I meant a little too hi-tech for a person like me to use.
I don't see me ever getting something like this.
