    help! too many skins??

please someone help! Is there any way I can download regular skins into an extra folder so I can have many clothes to choose from? It seems like my skin folder is full. My game keeps crashing. It's hard to have to put heads, regular skins and buyables into the same folder. I try putting my buyables into Expansion 3\SkinsBuy but they never show up in the game. I have three folders full of objects! i have a downloads folder, userobjects folder and objects folder and they are all pretty full :) However one folder for skins sucks. Please help. i love this game!!

    Some things to try.

Folder sizes - As long as you leave room for the swap file you should be ok on size. In Downloads and UserObjects you can have subfolders so you can try that. We can always run file cop, or try swapping some downloads in and out. I know the simwardrobe ivnentor claims to have used up to 500 skin combinations in his game.
Having too many downloads will only slow the game down. It might not be a problem unless you are geting Illegal Operation errors from windows (which cause close and crash messages). even then the game should play fine until that moment.
Buyable skins - I thought they had to be in Expansion3\Skinsbuy, but like you, they dont show up in my game. Maybe we'll find that answer elsewhere.
Use Elisims to make sure all your downloads have the correct bmp, mesh and skn files.

One: Skins are suppose to goto C:\Program Files\Maxis\The Sims\GameData\Skins (regular ones)

Purchaseable skins, not sure, but think the same place.

Use Sim File Cop (which you can get at www.thesims.com under get cool stuff, make cool stuff) and then have it check your skins and stuff. 99% accuracy.

The game will not read folders inside of skins. You put all the skins into your GameData/Skins folders, even buyables. It does sound like you may have at least one bad skin or head or texture in your files. Use ManagerJosh's suggestion to get and use Sims File Cop. It will find any bad skins or textures, bodies and heads and remove them.

Buyable skins have to be in the Expansion pack Shared Skins folder, and MUST have the correct file names! F at the beginning for Formal, S at the beginning for Swimsuit, L at the beginning for Lingere, etc. Ordinary skin files begin with B, and this must be replaced with the proper letter for the game to put those skins into the clothing racks to be buyable!

Thanks to you all for your suggestions. I do run Sims File cop regularly. I also downloaded Elisims and I really love the program. The only reason I am playing successfully now is because I finally had to get rid of Unleashed. I could not even click on a house anymore without the game crashing. So now I am running Deluxe, house party and hotdate, but my game runs in slow motion. That is a separate issue i already posted. I have uninstalled and reinstalled and it still is acting weird, but I think I have an idea. Sad about not being able to use Unleashed, but it was my problem, not the fact that I had too many skins.

What is the speed of your computer?? Mine is 300 mhz, and Unleashed requires 350mhz, which is FIFTY more mhz of speed than I've GOT... so it runs but it runs terribly slow!! You might check your RAM and mhz against what it says on the box to make sure you meet the minimum requirements for Unleashed... it requires more than the others! :p

If you have a corrupt installation of The Sims: Unleashed, it does affect your gameplay.
