Was the sims history.......or is there a bright future for this dying dinosaur?

In another of my posts quite a few people commented on how they feel the sims is 'fading' out. Is this threat immeadiate? I am starting to get the impression Maxis is dragging along a dead donkey. The latest expansion packs seem to be really drained.

Is this sudden loss of interest in the game causing people to close their websites on the sims? Are sims websites being created as rapidily as they use to be?

It is quite interesting to see how many people mentioned about the emptiness of the sims chat. I feel this was greatly influenced by the upgrading of the chat room.

    What are you opinions?
Do you think Maxis can revive the sims to what it use to be?

The chat has dropped way off just since christmas, I have only been there since Oct myself, so I didn't see what it was like before. I have played the game since Jan 2000, and will continue to play the game for years to come, but I play in cycles. I play for a long time, then take a complete break away from it and then go back. I hope that Superstar adds more interest and things to draw more people to the game. I do think that they need to take it to the next step. There are still a lot that can be done to the game to make it better, but the base is so old, it will have to start from the beginning again so to speak. I hope that the game continues on.

One of the indicators may be the number of games that are offered on e-bay and the price which is expected for them. My grandson is beginning to lose interest, largely because the game cannot be finished.

Why does everyone think the Sims is dying! You may not hear about it on the news or things like that, but Sims is as famous as it was when it came out.

I would disagree with you simzer, the sims is dying. I think maxis realise this. Do you think they will continue to make new expansion packs are superstar?

"PC-Action: What will the future of The Sims bring? A sequel is in the plans. Will Superstar be the last add-on or can the fans look forward to more additions?

"Jonathan Knight: No worries. As long as the fans want more expansion packs, they will get them."

However, I really think they need to roll out the next generation sims with better graphics, more things to do. Honestly People are closing websites a lot now because paysites are either providing too much competition, or they can't pay the stacking bills.

I feel that we won't see any more large sims websites popping up. I agree with you Josh, the pay site do provide too much competition. JUST KEEP YOUR WEBSITE FREE JOSH!

Well I've been getting a lot of heat from people who has been whining about spyware on my site...

I'm really ... off at Zoltan particular after clearly stating that the thread discussion was on spyware and NOT the history of WorldSims...but no, it got to the point where he had to play dirty and attack..

And the mods there refused to censor the post, not also to mention the locked up the thread.

Seriously, someone outta start an anti-TSR club.

There is some advertisers we use on the GSN Media Network that has spyware unfortunately....and we've made our second appeals attempt on getting them removed, however no luck.

We are trying to see other fesible methods of maintaining our operations without becoming a paysite.

    Long live the Sims!

Security-wise, I run a pretty tight ship, what with all the firewalls and all, and you tell me there's SPYWARE???  Nah, i'm just kidding, really, but to answer the original question, Of course it's not dying out. It may eventually "die out" but people will be playing it until it's so old it won't work on anybodys Holographic Cyber PC Implants :p. Just 'cause there's not as many new sites, the existing ones are growing, and I know, certain ones say they are done updating, but are they done PLAYING?
With the addition of Superstar, Vacation and Unleashed, I think the Ep's are getting BETTER. Yes, that's right, Better. LL and HP had only new objects and stuff, but the new EP's are giving us more places and more extras instead of just objects.

Oh yeah, almost forgot :D I response to Philip, in my opinion, once you have the top job, all the objects, the best house, all the skills, and (possibly) maxed out Personaltiy (from the crystal ball and such), you've pretty much won the game (with that family anyway)... so, in a way, it CAN be finished, but you gotta stretch it to call it that.

    Not this TSR war again...

I agree, the EPs are getting better. I still stand by my statement, The Sims isn't dying, sure maybe you may not here through the media, but other games, like Command and Conquer, are popular (and not dying) but you don't here about through the media. The game could (and should) improve, they could make it 3D, The Sims Garpgics are old. And I admit, it's not as popular as it was when it came out, but it's not dying.

As for the spyware accusation, that's the biggest buch of bullcrap I've ever heard.

But, Colonel Froggie, no-one tells you that you have won - do they? No-one tells you that you have lost either, but with the city looked like one great big bombed site I guess I must have lost. I suppose absolutely everyone must have moved out.

I can't use your pen name as though it is your real name. Sorry - I hope that Hat is sufficient!
I mentioned in a posting that Sim City was once reckoned to be the most difficult game of all because you can never finish it. The Colonel doesn't think so and I must admit neither do I. Some games are naturally endless but that doesn't automatically make them better than other games. On the whole I prefer a game to have a definite end with, preferably, a definite score.

When I get my sims families so they have maxed out their skills AND their interests, and they have a huge nice house, and have worked to the top of their field etc. I feel a sense of accomplishment and closure... now I add to that having pets win the top trophies, having a nice veggie garden etc. :D

I like to start a sim or sim family with a sort of plan or concept of what I want to do with them. I started a new "family" of one female sim, worked her up her career, had her build relationships and propose and marry a townie sim, had her adopt and train cats and dogs, and had her have a baby raided to a child. She's been at the top of her career twice so far... seems if you spend a certain amount of time at the top of your profession something happens and you get bumped into another field! I especially had fun being stubborn and playing this one sim WITHOUT using the money cheat! :D

I don't think the game is dying out... but I do think it may be progressing/changing to the next level soon, as it were. ;) Different game engine/graphics/features etc. will probably happen eventually.
