Worst Virus Week.... Eeish..just when you think Blaster did a lot of damage...here comes SoBig Virus....and dang we've been getting hit hard. I've been going through our general mailbox for the last couple of hours and I keep on deleting around 19 viruses from the box everytime... I think I've already gotten 50...and a good thing is that the virus stays on the server
VIRUS ALERT - W32.Sobig.F@mm is a mass-mailing, network-aware worm that sends itself to all the email addresses it finds in certain files on your PC. If you receive a message with an attachment with a .pif or .src extension, we strongly suggest you scan it before downloading. The message may appear to be from someone you know. , thats what my e-mail service says, seeing that josh didnt explain , hmm, i wonder who i know is infected...
My friend got the Blaster virus... now she can't play sims online... And I just got the game and hope to install today! All these viruses going around have me paranoid....
Good thing you deleted it! I'm starting to not even look in my junk mail folder and just empty it without looking....
Please see the mod note in this post before peforming any of the instructions below. someone from school sent me this, i dont trust her but i did it anyway, unfortunately a virus has been passed on to me because i was listed in someone else's address book who's computer was affected by the virus. my address book was infected. since you are in my address book there is a good chance you will find it in your computer too. the virus(called jdbfmgr.exe) is not detected by norton or mcafee antivirus systems. the virus sits quietly for 14 days before damaging the system. it is sent automatically by messenger and by the address book whether or not you sent e-mail to your contacts. here's how to check for the virus and how to get rid of it. go to start. find or search option in the file folder option type the name jdbgmgr.exe be sure you search your c:drive and all subfolders and any other drives you may have click find now the virus has a teddy bear icon with the name jdbgmgr.exe. do not open it!!! go to edit(on the menu bar) and choose select all to highlight the file without opening it now go to file (on the menu bar) and select delete. it will then go to the recycle bin if you find the virus you must contact all the people in your address book so they can eradicate it in their own address books to do this open a new e-mail message click the icon of the address book next to the"to" highlight every name and add to "BCC"(which means blind copy) copy this message and paste to e-mail THIS IS NOT A JOKE!!! Mod Edit: Please see the following post. This is a hoax.
Everyone see: http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/jdbgmgr.exe.file.hoax.html The above link will take you to the Security Response Center at Symantec.com Symantec is the creator of Norton AntiVirus. Its a hoax. This hoax, like the SULFNBK.EXE Warning hoax, tries to encourage you to delete a legitimate Windows file from your computer. Jdbgmgr.exe is the file to which the hoax refers, and it is the Microsoft Debugger Registrar for Java. The Jdbgmgr.exe file may be installed when you install Windows.
I got sent a warning like this about another windows program like this a year or so ago, it's alarming when you do the search and DO find the file the hoax claims is a virus! But I always check out stuff like this before believing it, I know even my friends who mean well might not have checked it out. So always double check. I like snopes.com and the about.com hoaxes and urban legends sections for looking up stuff like this. Does anyone else go to sites like that for reference?
i keep getting an e-mail that says "Microsoft" as sender and the subject is "use this pach immediately", is this true or false?
i've only ever gotten the hoax mentioned here by slimsim and i just went to the symantec website. However, i did get a different virus (didnt ever open it so it didn't infect comp) and again, i went to the symantec website. They are very good for viruses. I doubt it, but to be sure you could try going to their site (microsoft.com) and doing a search for whatever the email talks about. i believe i've gotten a few that have claimed to be microsoft also. Infact, i just found one in my trachs with the same subject you describe. the email body is I highly highly doubt that is microsoft, considering they said 'virus' not 'viruses' which is proper english. Also, i would expect that microsoft would be a bit more formal about the buisiness and explain a bit more. I've not downloaded any patch and am doin fine. Hope that helped.
Those Microsoft Viruses have the Virus "W32.Dumaru@mm" W32.Dumaru@mm is a mass-mailing worm that drops an IRC Trojan onto the infected machine. The worm gathers email addresses from certain file types and uses its own SMTP engine to email itself. http://securityresponse1.symantec.com/sarc/sarc.nsf/html/w32.dumaru@mm.html
Very interesting... On a side note, has there ever been any reported cases of Symantec's mainframe(s) being hacked or cracked? I hope I phrased this question correctly but you guys should know what I'm talking about.
lol oink josh, i got that virus too.. but i gues you had to open the attachment for it to do anything cuase tho nortan said that i downloaded a virus and it couldn't do anything about it, went to that page and got symantecs thing (yes, i know symantec made norton) to eradicate it and it said i didn't have it.. *shrug*
