Sims 2 DVD Edition Only Preorder???

I have a question on the Sims 2 DVD edition... will it only be available by preordering your copy? I did read somewhere it is a limited edition so should I interpret that to mean I can only get it if I preorder and the DVD version will not be available in stores? I am very interested in the DVD version because I like the sounds of only 1 CD vs. 4 CDs. I also want to see all the extras the DVD version has. I have been waiting to preorder but should I just hurry up and do it in case I cannot get the DVD version in stores. Lol hope this all makes sense. Any help with my question would be appreciated.

I just pre-ordered the DVD version. I like how its the same cost as the regular version. And its soooooooo much cooler. By the way, my regular disc drive is 52x, while my DVD drive is only 16x. Will this have any affect on the game?

The way drive speed works is how fast it spins your CD or DVD. Fast CD speeds are around 52x and DVD speeds are 16x, which means the DVD does spin slower, BUT since a lot more information is crammed onto a DVD, it CAN still be spun slower while reading the same amount of data. Since all the data is closer together on a DVD, it doesn't need to be spun faster than a CD which has its information more spread out.

    Does this make sense? :)

DVD speeds are not the same as CD speeds. You can't compare them.

OK just preordered my game DVD edition. I will wait to just buy the other CD copy in stores to save on shipping costs etc. I can't wait. Hope that the DVD version will run on my computer and there won't be any problems makes me nervous having never had a game on DVD before.

The DVD edition is only available by preorder, although there are *many* stores who have it available that way. You don't have to do it online, since you can also preorder in person in the retail stores.

Here is an article explaining it:

If your computer has a DVD drive in it, you shouldn't have any trouble. You just put it in the drive and treat it like you would a CD. It just handier because you don't have to deal with swapping out the CDs.

You can preorder from Gamestop and EB Games online for in-store pickup to save on shiping costs. You don't need both of them as they have exactly the same game in both versions.

Yes I know they are the same but I didn't want to preorder 2 copies of the DVD version. I plan to get another copy for my friend for her birthday but I won't have to get that until late Sept/Oct and I don't care if she gets the CD version so I decided to just buy that one in stores later but my copy was the most important lol and I wanted the DVD version so I preordered. Yippe!! lol Thanks for all the replies good to know I won't have a problem with the DVD drive.

DVD is good because it takes up less space!:)

I'll probably get Half-Life2 on DVD.

More and more games will probably be coming out in DVD format. Everyone should get a DVD drive so they can enjoy them, too!

Well....My only question on this is, is it in the same type of case that dvds come in so it wont fit in the rack for all your other games? ( we have 4 cd racks on the wall for all our computer games. personally Im going to get it even if it wont fit since it seems so much better lol.)

The CD version of the game probably would not fit in your cd rack either since it would be a double case (like makin magic was) I am guessing since the game in CD format is 4 CDs. Just being helpful and explaining that hope it makes sense.

Oh double cases fit fine since I will just toss my lil sis's games on the desk if the in the way hehehe. never had problems with double cases and since s2 wont work on this comp I dont have to worry about how to get it to fit with my games since my 2 double slots r filled lol

LOL yes I realized that right after I posted that you probably had room for the double cases on your shelves but it was to late to change my post lol. I looks like the DVD version may come in a box the same as CD version so I would guess that it wouldn't come in a standard Dvd case but I don't know could be wrong guess you could always store it in an extra jewel case from something else. Lol anyway I will stop worrying about it I don't care if it comes in a magic pumpkin I just want it to get here already lol

I haven't bought many PC games lately. I've been buying more console games. I keep envisioning The Sims 2 in one of those big cases...
