    Major Crashing problems!!!

    Ok...i bought sims 2 the day after it came out. and i found out i needed 256 ram for it to work. so a week later (today), i bought more ram, so now i have 256 ram to play the game. When i started the game, every time i clicked on a house to start, or when i clicked on sim body shop, a box came up saying "application has crashed. the application has been terminated." then when i pressed ok, the whole game would shut off and i would be back to my main desktop screen. i looked up my ea tech support answers to my question, i closed all my background applications, checked my minimum requirements, and even uninstalled, and reinstalled twice, and i still have the same problem. how do i fix this?! please help me out. thanx...

    I am having exactly the same problems. I have updated to the latest Nvidia Drivers , so it cant be that. I think its the memory (as in manual, its says 384mb is recommended if you have XP or 2000).
    If I had more maybe The Sims 2 wouldnt need to use as much of the pagefile. I think thats whats causing it. The hard drive is trying to access data and unpack it AT THE SAME time as accessing the pagefile.

    Im getting 512mb of memory soon to take my total up to 768mb so I hope that this will sort it, if it doesnt I wont be a happy bunny! lol

    Also, lets hope the patch that Maxis are working on is released soon and will fix all these bugs.

    Heres my system specs....

    1) CPU (MHz/GHz) - Pentium 4 - 2.0ghz - 512K L2 cache
    2) RAM/Memory - How Much (MB/GB) - 256mb pc2100
    3) Free Hard Disk Space - 18gb
    4) Total Hard Disk Space - 40gb
    5) Graphic/Video Card - 128mb Nvidia Geforce FX5200
    6) Graphic/Video Card Driver Version - Forceware 61.77
    7) DirectX Version - 9.0c
    8) Operating System (Windows? Mac? Etc) - Windows XP Home

    it may be just that your computer isnt up to snuff. last time i remember, the P3's never went over 1GHZ which the minimum proc required is 1.5GHZ with a T&L cpable video card. as well, i dont know the exact specs on your card, but the geforce 2 mx seems a bit old (also, the 32MB of RAM also gave it away), so it may not support T&L in the first place. and although 256MB RAM is the minimum required, anything from 512MB and above is recommended.

    If you are having crashing problems, try running memtest for an hr or two and see if you get any errors. If you do, your memory is the source of all the crashing.

    Well I found the source of my crashing problems. It was due to my RAM clock settings being wrong.

    In the BIOS* , ensure that the DRAM Clock is set to the correct speed depending on the speed of the ram installed as follows (for DDR ram:(

    PC1600 = 200mhz (100mhzx2)
    PC2100 = 266mhz (133mhzx2)
    PC2700 = 333mhz (166mhzx2)
    PC3200 = 400mhz (200mhzx2)

    If you still experience game crashes then try what I did. Drop the dram clock ratio to 1:1. This may result in the RAM running slower than intended but will be much more stable.

    *NOTE: ONLY ALTER THE BIOS SETTINGS IF YOU KNOW WHAT YOU'RE DOING!!
