Gnomes getting around town, and back...

I moved a family into a house and decided to give them a row of Gnomes for cosmetic effect. Now EVERY sim that came around to the house stole a gnome, some while one of the house's occupants watched and protested...

Then when night came, my sims all abandoned the lot on "Steal back" missions, put the gnomes in front of the house ... and they were immediately stolen again!?

This has to be the ULTIMATE desire for any visiting Sim... although if you put the gnomes back to a wall the offending sim will stand there and gripe that they cant move where they want.

It's not really annoying, more amusing than anything. I expected some to go missing, but all 6 in about 1 sim hour was insane. This is an endless cycle it seems, as they are stolen and stolen back and ... well u get the idea.

It's fun to watch, but takes a lot of your sims time.

I have the same problem. I only have one family with little gnomes in their garden, but they are stolen all the time. It's the same thief every time... a sim I made, his name is Don Corleone, and he is a sophisticated, vicious and coldhearted member of the local mafia. I don't know to what evil purposes he needs these gnomes, but it's apparently *very* important too him.
The green, scaly, girl; Scala, went on a raid in the middle of the night (about 2 am) once too steal the gnomes back. It's just that she is a child, and it was school the day after...
Otherwise it's kinda amusing though, the Don looks very scheming and has a wicked grin on his face every time he sneaks in to steal

I don't really know why they had uncontrolled sims perform the "gripe" animations. I mean, what the hell do they expect YOU to do about it? You don't control them! It's not like you can actually *DO* anything about their condition.

Yes, there is something you can do. You can go into Buy Mode and move the gnome to where they *can* steal it... which is apparently what they're waiting for. *grins*

It almost makes you want to be able to play the gnome, just to see where he ends up. Sort of like those Travelocity "Roaming Gnome" comercials! LOL LOL

In my case, about half the visiting sims try to steal the gnome, while the other half refrain from doing so. Both halves stay consistent in their gnome-related behavior in all their visits, so I'm wondering, what exactly determines whether a sim will steal gnomes?

I believe, but have yet to confirm, that it is keyed to Grouchiness. Grouchier sims appear to be the ones that will swipe gnomes. All of the gnome thieves I've seen heard of seem to have been grouchy sims.

The Sims that stole from me were grouchy so this does makes sense... In light of that, is a grouchy sim in the family that owns the gnomes then more likely to 'steal one back' than a nice one?

Yes, I recall that grouchy sims are more likely to receive "Steal Back Gnome" as well.

Hmm, after checking the neighborhood, it does seem that grouchy sims take a liking to the gnomes. At least, no one with over 5 niceness points ever steals it. Don't know about the townies though. One particular sim with just 1 point below average in the grouch/nice department is one of my most notorious gnomelifters. I guess even just being a bit grouchy encourages gnomelifting behavior...

Do the gnomes actually turn up at the houses of the stealer? I doubt it, but it would be amusing to create a lot with a ton of gnomes and see where they all end up! :p

My mafia family have become my cheif gnome stealers now... also i've been using telescopes on some families so they come around to beat me up ^_^

If you barricade your door with furniture, the people coming to beat you up will be unable to get inside your house, and will leave frustrated. :)
