    Some Things I Noticed

Why do the parents of children in your neighborhood come over to the house and walk in if your kid calls theirs on the phone just to chat?

Does anyone else have a natural voyeur in their neighborhood? I have one mean sim who naturally peaks into her neighbor's house making the neighbor run over and get in a fight with her. As soon as he leaves, she rubs her hands together with a wicked grin and starts all over again.

I apologize if this has already been noticed and discussed.

How on earth does one make a "mean" sim? Just drop the "nice" marks to zero on their personality?

Low nice marks makes for a cranky, irritable Sim. I actually find I rather like them, since Nice sims always come across to me as spineless wimps, so I often encourage grouchiness. It doesn't hurt that it seems to be much easier to encourage traits thought to be "negative". I have to encourage like a dozen times to increase a single activity point, but it takes like 3 attempts to lose a nice point. That, and I relate better to grouchy sims, being that I'm a grouchy person, except that my grouchiness is more reactive: I won't kick your trashcan, but I *WILL* fill my trashcan with cement and connect a high-voltage line to it for when YOU kick it.

LOL!! No, I have not experienced a voyeur! That is too funny! Is this one a Maxis-created sim or one you created yourself that just turned out that way.

This is one of my own. I created my own sandbox neighborhood to play with.

No, if I don't watch her closely, she'll go out to the telescope during the middle of the day and peek at the neighbors. There are two ways I figure she must be doing this: one she acts like she's trying to hide what she's doing, like something she sees might be looking back, two the neighbor kept running over for no apparent reason and poking her in the chest just after she'd get off the telescope.

She only has two points towards nice, but a decent amount towards playful. Maybe that's what you need.

Haha. I had my sims spy on their neighboors with the telescope too. My female sim only tends to check out the neighbor's plants and stuff, but my male sim was spying on some old guy who lives down the street. The little bubble with the old man's face appeared above my sims head, and he backed off the telescope and went "EEW!" and threw his arms up in disgust, but then he went right back to spying on him. Then of course the old man came over and shoved my sim a couple times and yelled at him and then stormed off. Funny stuff.

I'm not sure what the requirements are for your sims to spy on their neighboors. I don't think it has to do with your sim's niceness, because both of my sims have high marks in the "nice" category. But both of my spying sims do have a full 10 points in the "logic" skill, so maybe having high logic has something to do with it, which of course is developed on the telescope. ;)

The "parents of kids you talked to on the phone barging in" is a small, subtle bug. It seems to be brought about by the "fetch kid who's out visiting somebody late at night" feature, only, obviously, the kid is not really present on the lot, since you merely phoned him.

The "virtual presence" effect, however, becomes apparent if your Sim has the jumping bug, causing the sim he's phoning to very briefly warp over to him when he jumps. This is because of the way telephones work in the world of the Sims:

A telephone, in the Sim universe works because when you call somebody (note how you never have to ask them for their phone numbers, and you can phone otherwise total strangers you greeted briefly), little imps kidnap and shrink the person you are phoning with, and stuff him into the phone, where he talks to you. After the conversation ends, the imps take him and put him back, erasing his memory of what happened.
