    Sims 2 on ebay?

I found the sims 2 on e-bay for about $26.00. I don't know if I should get it. It showed a picture of the box and four disc(does it even have four disc?)

I just want to know if i should get it

    Thx,
    Chris

The discs are probably functional, but odds are good that the registration number you'd get is worthless. On the other hand, if it DOES work, you've got yourself a bargain, a registration number that you've broken the initial trace on. I can say with fair confidence that the game itself works. The registration number may or may not have already been used, and the owner may or may not give you the account he registered it under. Caveat emptor.

I have every sympathy for young people who often have to struggle hard to get cash together. I would advise iwantthesims to take care. The game can be bought new and over the counter for not a huge amount more ... at least you then have some kind of guarantee. If you've been looking on ebay why not consider have a "closet" sale of your own ... most of have mountains of 'junk' that some other sucker is always willing to pay for.

I'm not saying that you should or shouldn't. However, this deal is a real steal....for somebody. There's two obvious possibilities: The guy has already extracted everything of value he can from the package and is now unloading the spent box and CDs for anything he can squeeze from you. Alternatively, the guy is so frustrated and fed up with the bugs, that he'll basically cough up any connected information, such as the account he may or may not have registered, or even send you the CD key in advance so you can test it yourself....except you can't register without their funny proprietary registration thing, which I suspect is some sort of snooping program. I haven't yet found anything which looks like the outright smoking gun for this, but that just means they hid it really well. As you should well know, if you can't find the proof of something, it means that the person who did the original hiding did a very good job.

Depends on how much ordering it elsewhere or buying it from the store costs. I got the mundane edition for $30 at the store, so obviously I prefer buying normally. However, if you can only get it for $40 - $50, you could consider the ebay copy. It all boils down to your quantity of personal funds and how much you value assurance against cost.

LOL ... that reminds me of a story about a shelf stacker at a grocery store who was deliberately denting cans of food cos the staff got to buy them at discount ... she got fired.

I've heard that one before. There's a more elaborate version of this scam, where instead of YOU denting the cans, an accomplice dents the cans. This way, even if the person in question is caught denting cans, you don't have to act like you're aware of this at all, and can, in fact, go "Ooh! Dented cans!" even if he gets caught. Especially if he gets caught. He can avoid getting caught by making his can-denting look accidental.

Erm, interesting... :ermm: Anyway, every mundane TS2 in the store was for approx. $30, while special editions (the kind that comes in this really deep silver box) were around $41. Also, games like Doom 3 were retailing for around the equivalent of US$35, Far Cry @ ~$27. I guess games are just cheap in this country :p

That's interesting, Cyricc ... but what country are you in?

No way, that's too expensive for Taiwan. If it were Taiwan, it'd be more like $15, and in China, it's $5.

There is only one way to compare prices between countries of radically differing levels of economic development and that is to convert prices into average (or minimum) wage rates. In the UK TS2 can be bought at any mall for 6hr 10mins minimum wage labor. It recommened price is 39.99 but most big stores are selling at below 27.00 (Walmart's UK axquisition, Asda, appears to be leading the way with the lowest price ... tho I could be wrong :p )

    Cows. That is correct.

I suppose one could obtain a pirated version for $5 or less here, but I think $15 falls into no-prices land.
