Secondary requirement for meditation?

    Secondary requirement for meditation?

Steve just gained his third dot in logic, but he didn't get the ability to meditate.

Steve is a sloppy & lazy romance sim. Thus my first experiment was to make one average-trait knowledge sim and one sloppy & lazy romance sim and let them play chess with each other. Sure enough, at their third dot the knowledge sim gained the meditation ability and the romance sim didn't.

To narrow it down, I created two new sims. Both romence sims, but one sloppy & lazy and the other with average traits. Time to find out if it's romance sims or sloppy sims that don't get the ability. Guess what? BOTH sims gained the ability! WTF?

Does anyone here have any idea how this works?

Maybe it's a bug, that player 2 doesn't get the ability if he gains the logic point as the second player in a chess match?

    >>"Maybe it's a bug,"

    Might be.

    >>"that player 2 doesn't get the ability if he gains the logic point as the second player in a chess match?"

    No, that can't be it.
Both pairs gained their three points playing chess together.

What is his fitness level? Don't they have to have a medium-to-fit fitness level?

Does meditation appear if you gain ANOTHER logic point? Maybe it just failed to trigger for some reason. TS2 has some weird bugs regarding levels like that.

All test sims I created was of average fitness.

No, even at 10 locic, these sims can't meditate.

    Okey, I found it:

    Meditation is considered somewhat serious.
No sim with level 9 or 10 in playfulness can ever meditate, regardless of logic level.

Is there any way whatsoever to change traits without using SimPE?

Ah, there it is. Sim-neurosis and ADD. Yes, it seems Playful 9/10 Sims qualify as ADD, and could never possibly concentrate on something so otherwise dull long enough to be considered meditating. They'd probably be distracted by a shiny object or grow bored before managing to sit down. Certain personality traits, when taken to extremes, tend to correspond with various real mental conditions. Neat 9/10 Sims have OCD, Playful 9/10 have ADD, etc.

You can try encouragement from an older relative, or you can wait until the expansion pack, "The Sims 2: Seeking Psychiatric Help" comes out, allowing you to put the Sim in question on Ritalin, turning him into a lifeless, drooling zombie instead.

Some spinoff findings from my research:

You need to have at least five points in active to run, and at least five points in playful to "skutta". Hmm, what's that in english? Jump or skip, perhaps.

Also, some sims learn faster then others. I think it's connected to the "active" trait, but I'm not sure yet. The active sims always learned faster then the lazy sims, but there was other factors as well that different between those sims.

The cutoff point for "Run" is 6 active bars, not 5, unless you can still run at 5 active bars when encouraged, because you're not actually at perfectly 5 active (500), but are somewhere slightly above, like (519). Same applies to "Skutta", which is "Skip here". I'm not sure what the benefit of doing this is, however, since it doesn't seem to improve Fun, nor is it fast, unless you plan to dress up in green and act like a Leprechaun.

And yes, some sims do learn faster than others: This varies partially by skill: Certain personality types have an affinity to certain skills: Creativity has playfulness affinity, Body has activeness affinity, Charisma has outgoingness affinity, Cleaning has neatness affinity.

There's also a few other unlocked interactions, like playing pirate and juggling, which require some amount of playfulness that I'm uncertain of, as well as home invasion, streaking, and public urination, which require a high level of Outgoing.

This, I feel, is a woeful misrepresentation on Maxis' part of skipping, which, in RL, is fast, fun, as well as being far more graceful and cool-looking than running, which, if you are not fit or barefoot, tends to make you look like a loon anyway, in my experience. Also, my dear Mr. Pescado, one does categorially NOT need to be a leprechaun in order to utilise that little-used human facility of skipping for fast and graceful transportation. All sims that are able to skip do it very nicely, in an understated style that is both becoming and practical.

Way to go Zooty! Ole FishFace doesn't have all the answers ... any more than Maxis does .... I regularly take a few skips whenever the mood takes me. It's still fun even though I am over 50. (I am also not averse to lifting my feet off the ground when I get a loaded shopping cart up to speed on the car park ... )

Yes, but that's not how it works in the Sims, where it is not fast, does not improve his fun, and has the general effect of making your Sim look like a leprechaun.

Well, of course it makes you look like a loon. That's what inspires people to get the hell out of the way when they see you barrelling towards them at a full run.

Becoming, yes. Practical....not really. Like I said, in TS2, it's neither fast, nor fun. I don't do it much in real life, either, but that's mostly because I'm a serious person.

Um, I wasn't being entirely serious. I'm sorry if you picked up on that and it is I who did not realise that you were maybe continuing with the silliness, but if not, sorry for the confusion. I am aware that skipping has no needs-related application in the Sims, though I must quibble at your leprechaun remark - as I say, the sims' skipping is in my experience quite cool-looking and understated. Also I tend to imagine leprechauns as being quite portly, so they wouldn't really be given much to skipping, in my view - maybe pixies would be more appropriate to use in this context.

I don't seem to recall tubbyness being a noteworthy trait of leprechauns. I always say them as the archetypal skippers. Also, don't pixies fly, rendering modes of travel on the ground somewhat irrelevant?
