Install Problems. MY SPECS: Asrock K7VT2 M/B AMD Athlon XP 2400+ 2 x 512MB PC2700 Ge Force 4 Ti-4200 64MB Nvidia Drivers 6.1.77 (more stable for me) LG 4040b DVD Re-writable (YES..firmware updated & works on ALL other disks Direct X 9c Win XP Pro SP2 (all updated) Sims2 CD Total HDD Space = 80G Free HDD Space = 46G PROBLEM: Install freezes after entering CD Key. I tried a fresh OS Install on another HDD with only MB drivers, Audio Drivers & Video Drivers installed. (I am now using my orig HDD again.) NOPE!! Refuses to install. I AM NOT HAPPY!! I know it's not the Graphics card, as others are using the same one. Anyone got any bright ideas??
Hi Keri, My first instinct was to look at that display card. It is 2 years old which is kinda prehistoric. Having said that the rest of the system looks like it is up to the min sys requirements so consider the possibility of a faulty disc.
Hi CD is fine. Installs on several other systems. I know my Video card is old, but it seems to cope with other high end graphic games easily. I've come to the conclusion it must be a compatibility issue with M/B & CPU. However I will try a different card and post results.
That motherboard and CPU combination works perfectly. I would also suggest upgrading your nVidia drivers as well.
Well, video card is a non-factor really, how does a graphics card affect the installation of a game? 4200 is a decent card for its age, better than a 5200 in nearly everything except for hardware DirectX8. I don't really have any idea what could be causing it, only advice would be to test it on another computer for the possibility of a defective copy.
ok...replaced card with an FX5200 that worked with the game on another computer. No luck. Still not installing. NOT video card problem. And the nVidia drivers 6.1.77 work properly on another computer with the FX 5200 card. Not a driver issue. Also, Gf4 Ti4200 has NO probs with DirectX 9 games, and is actually better than the Fx5200. And Josh, while this M/B & CPU combo work perfectly with everything else I've thrown at it, this is the ONLY game it has ever had a problem with.
It may very well just be slow. I noticed you are using PC2700 memory rather than PC3200. Perhaps you should try entering the CD key again, and go away awhile and see if it processes everything.
Ok. Josh....is 1/2 an hour long enough? It installs on a P3 800 properly and faster than this. And this board will only support PC2100 or PC2700. according to my research. Mirelly....yes but they weren't any help either. btw you actually have to use the tech support in EA Games.
Hmm, that's odd... so it's not a defective disk. Drive problem, perhaps? Try sticking a CD drive in there and see if it can install off that. PC2700 shouldn't be a problem, because that's what I'm using right now and it runs all my games fine (and believe me, I have a lot of games). The entire AthlonXP line uses 2700, while only the Athlon64's use 3200.
Yeah... if you have the CD version of The Sims 2 the you have to use a CD Drive, while as the DVD Version requires a DVD-ROM Drive. btw, if this solves the problem do you think you can lower my warning level? The red dots are giving me a headache and I just plain old, don't like it.
I have the CD version and installed the game via a DVD RW drive, Ringle ... so there goes another theory ...
Agreed Mirelly.......makes no difference. We have 2 main comps. Both AMD systems, both identical LG 4040b DVD/RW drives. Mine is the only 1 having probs. The other installs perfectly. I have a feeling I will be going for a DFI board & Athlon 64 CPU. This has me totally baffled, and I'm no slouch at troubleshooting probs.
So both drives are identical but one doesn't work, and only for TS2? Does it install and play other Securom/Safedisk protected games properly? Try slaving the drive from the good computer to the drive in the bad one, and installing off that drive.
Yes...mine installs other protected games properly. Ok...tried using the other drive in mine...No good. still won't install. If anyone has the same Board/CPU combo, and has TS2 working, please post here and tell me how you did it.
OK...Have solved the problem!! By chance I discovered that if I completely un-install my Audigy soundcard...physically as well as drivers, then TS2 installs perfectly. Very strange for a decent soundcard to cause this problem. If it was cheap & nasty then I would expect it.
All drivers were up to date. Just one those quirky things I guess. They have a mind of their own sometimes.
