Tips on building houses? I need tips on building houses. I suck at building them lol if you could give me tips and screenshots of ur sim houses maybe i can get ideas from those screenies and tips. Thanks so much.
My few tips ... Keep houses as small as possible ... rambling great houses are terrible to play unless you have a state of the art computer with liquid cooling Some rooms have ideal (or minimum) sizes eg: Bathroom 3x3 Bedroom (double) 4x4 - better is 5X5 Most rooms benefit from having more than one door - prevents sims piling up Try to avoid hallways and passageways that are less than one square wide; the new sims are much less likely to get stuck in narrow halls but it still happens anyway The main living room needs to be large enough to accomodate the family and their guests. Most sims like playing chess so a 3x1 area is needed for that. For a family at least 2 (more likely 3 or 4) living chairs/sofa seats are also needed. I usually plan this as 2 x 2-seater sofas. Near the sofas you need a coffee table or end table (for thinking cap) and a bookcase. For most purposes a room 4X6 or better 5X6 will do this pretty well. ########## _____Red=Bedroom ########## _____Green=Bathroom ########## _____Black=Living Room ########## _____Blue= Kitchen/Diner/Entrance/Lobby ########## ########## _____The front porch at bottom right ########## _____Doors are hinted at by underlines # ###### ###### ###### Failing that I made this house that a sim can buy with the standard $20,000. It has enough basic furniture and is quite large with 3 bedrooms and 1.5 bathrooms. I raised up 2 or 3 family dynasties fom one those. And it contains no hacked objects!
Awsome, Mirelly!! Something else I read somewhere is to think of your sims as being a little bit closterphobic, and give them plenty of windows and doors.
just don't make huuuuuge rooms like I always end up doing. Unless i'm being really careful I always end up with giant rooms that waste a lot of money and are just dead space. I think this may be in responce to me living in a smallish house with many rooms. So all the rooms are tiny!
I know when you build a house on a foundation it gives it a more "real" look, but after I put the foundation whenever I put connecting stairs it always says "needs at least 1 step"...what does that mean?
Valerie. To place connecting stairs you start at the top and the build tool then tries to find a level place lower down to set the bottom step. If needed it will try to do some levelling of nearby ground so it might be that you already have something near where the bottom step wants to go ... (plants, fences, paths, other foundations, anything really!) ... such stuff will prevent the gound being levelled and produce various error messages including the one you're getting.
You might also be building too close to the sidewalk. You need a few squares clearance to be able to plunk down the stairs.
