    Question regarding pictures and paintings

Forgive my ignorance, but i would really appreciate it if anyone could inform me more on how we can create custom portraits, photos and pictures to be hung on the walls of our houses. I have also seen sims posing for family portraits and the like on websites and trailers, but i somehow don't see any option for that whenever i make one of my sims paint a picture on the canvas. If it's still life or portrait or someone else, it always makes me snap photos for him/her to paint and nothing more than that--or is that how it works in reality?

It's just that it seems really interesting to have your sim paint a fellow family member lounging on a couch or something, and also to have more variety in your house photos and portraits.

    Thanks!

Sims can learn to paint portraits and other pictures when they reach 5 or 6 on the creativity skill.

As for custom made pictures. Take a look at this tutorial which not only explains exactly how to go about making custom artwork for sims wall but also has all the special tools for the job.

On the other hand, if you're lazy like me you just search the web for sites with downloadable items. There are zillions of sites so I won't list any specific ones. :)

Thanks so much for the links, but the question still remains: when my sim is considered a talented artist when it comes to painting, are the only 'extra' things he/she can paint snapshots that YOU took? For example, when i make him/her paint the portrait of another sim, wht happens is that the 'model' sim agrees and just stands there near the easel and does nothing. If i were supposed to snap his/her pic then, it'd be nothing special like lounging, reading or eating fruit, let alone posing for a family photo. In that case, what's the point of painting portraits if the most you can get is a shot well out of the easel's way? (most of the time the painter sim gets in the painting in some weird paradox effect)...sigh.

Well the good news is that, even though they are standing there doing nothing as the other sim paints them, they will still fetch a higher cash reward if they are sold.

I too have wondered how to get a sim to lay on the couch and be painted just like the one in the opening film.

I've found that to get the pictures of the Sims doing something other than just standing there, I use the still life rather than the portrait for it. That way you can control them better for the shot (and they don't have to stand there doing nothing while they are being painted.

Since I never had my Sims paint family members for money, but rather so they could hang it on their wall, I wasn't aware that there was a selling price difference.

Also as soon as the painter begins work you can send the one being painted away to do something else ... you have to cancel out the "be painted" order. The only action that cancels the painter is for the subject to leave the lot.
