    Family Prefrence?

So what's everyone's family prefrence? I mean bachelor, bachelorette, couple, etc...

I personally like to create bachelors, build up their skills and job, then find a wife. I have a hard time concentrating when I have 2 or more people in the house so I try to keep it as simple as possible. I don't let my Sim die without having at least one kid, just to continue the family tree.

usually start with two grandparents living with Adult child and spouse. They make great babysitters and give a.c. time to develop skills to achieve good income. pretend that they are immigrants with mass bucks from the old country.

That's a pretty good idea. I'll have to try that.

How I start depends on aspiration. Romance Sims usually like to live alone to avoid making anyone jealous. I find it's easier to seduce people when you don't have a roommate. :p

Knowledge Sims do well in pairs. They can make their lifetime goals and then get married and start a family if they want to, and in the meantime studying or playing chess with someone else counts as social time, and they can have a nicer house because of the two incomes.

Popularity Sims do well alone with a constant stream of visitors or with other popularity Sims. Life is one big party. Popularity and shy Knowledge Sims should not live together, as "have party" tends to be one's want and the other's fear ...

I start money Sims by themselves and try to get them as rich as possible, then have someone else move in with them, such as a romance sim who's already made their goals, or if it's a female money sim I might make her a single mom and then find her a nanny. Money sims don't seem to get that lonely, though having a lover or two helps. I don't really like pairing money sims with other money sims. All they want to do is buy things, and keeping them both happy means they're usually, ironically, broke. They get along with all other aspirations equally well.

Family Sims, if they want to have more than a couple of kids, need to get married as soon as possible. I find that having at least three adults in a household works the best. More income, and more people to watch the kids. I monitor their work schedules so someone's always home when the kids are, and if that doesn't work out I keep the person with the most vacation home that day. Or have the one without career goals quit their job.

I sometimes have a young couple and a young nanny who then usually ends up getting married so I have two families in one household. It works pretty well, although if they have two kids each that's a full house. It's best to stagger them so their kids are different ages. Right now I have a couple with twins in college and the nanny and her husband have twins that are still children (it's something in the water, apparently). I had an elder nanny but she died on me so now I tend to make them adults.

If you have university you don't even have to wait for them to make friends with a nanny type. You can create her/him and plop 'em into the house. Voila. Instant child care. Try to avoid the insane NPC nannies. I've had nothing but trouble with them.

I like roommates. My question is how to add them. I can start out families as groups of adult roommates (I've done both young and old) and had singles adopt children and so on. Sometimes they fall in love; sometimes not. But is it possible to ask friends to move in as friends? This option only seems available for romances. I'd really like to ask the best friend to live with me sometimes.

I haven't tried it. Every time I've invited someone to move in they were already in love ... Might be interesting to experiment with just friends and see what happens. Pescado mentioned that if I wanted a kid to move in with her biological father I'd need a courier. He's friends, nothing more, with her step-uncle. I'll see if I can get them to move in without having to flirt. :p You would think you could do that, but who knows ...

I have moved Sims out of the houses they were in and then just put them into a household with someone I thought they'd get along with or that I wanted them to marry (nothing like forced togetherness, heh heh ...)

In those cases, they weren't even necessarily friends. I just got tired of trying to get them to meet each other. So I thought, hey, I'm god(dess) here, I can do whatever I choose ... here you go, one potential spouse/best friend, no invitation necessary.

SBW you have explained it so well.

For roommates i just make them and shove them in. If you bring up that person and move them out of their house and then click them on the person window you can move them into a another house with someone else but i only think its avaible if you have TS2 uni.

Yep, only available with University. I discovered it by accident ...

So my path to having Myla reunite with her father, Carlos, is becoming convoluted indeed ... first her step-uncle needs to move into their tiny house, then they need to move out together, not even sure if I can do that, with her being a teen and all, then I need to plop them into Carlos' mansion and then Gil needs to "find own place" and go back to the science lab ... I mean bachelor pad.

Whew. I think I'll try the propose move in option just for fun first, but that may be the route I need to go ...

Ive just started playing SIMS2; so, Im just using a single adult female with fortune/business aspirations. Im using the Aging Off cheat (which doesnt seem to be working, which is a whole other issue). I didnt want to become an elder and die before I could make some $$ (currently at the executive level of the business career), build a nice home, then find the love of my life and start a family. At that point, Ill turn aging back on and let the family fun begin!

I use aging, but I try to have them reach platinum aspiration asap and then guzzle the elixir of life like it's um, well, the elixir of life. :p And just keep 'em happy in the meantime. Doesn't always work, but my success rate is pretty good.

I've had three sisters of totally different personalities and aspirations under the same roof. Now they're married (two aged into elders), have kids...makes the neighborhood grow really fast. :D

The normal way I've usually played is having two singles get married and combine incomes that way, then go from there. I've combined bachelors under the same roof and let them go that way...blah. I've had GIANT families of three siblings, their spouses, and their kids under one roof. Gah!

I've yet to have the granny living with a family yet. I just now started a third generation (grandson named Cloud...huzzah i'm a Sim grandma! :D)

Chee-Z, I'd go insane with all those people in one house. I freak out when there's only two. I can't split my concentration very well between two Sims.

It depends on my mood actually. I've started families with two opposite sex singles, bachelors, parent/teen, etc. I usually don't start huge families right off the bat; I like to let them build up themselves. I usually can't handle all their aspirations, wants, necessities, etc if there are too many in the home. =)

OK, anyone ever created same-sex couples? Not that I'm the type, just curious.

Yeah it's crazy to have eight people in the same house. By the time my brain is fried from multitasking all of them, I end up moving at least one "family" out.

That's what I had to do with my University family today...ah dorm life with eight people...:D

And the only time I've had a "gay" couple was back in Sims 1, when I had two female roommates accidentally fall in love and they ended up adopting a child. The relationship didn't last too long b/c one ended up getting jealous b/c the other was flirting with a man.

My Sims marry whomever they choose ... I had two female roommates fall in love and I thought, why not? They've turned out to be one of my favorite couples. The only problem with same-sex that I've found is that adoptions don't come with maternity leave ... what's up with that, anyway? It's much trickier to raise a brood of all adoptees because of it.

I have two guys living together right now that I intend to have marry each other. One of them just kept thinking about guys all the time and who am I to force him into a narrow mold?

But although I am definitely flexible most of my couples are boy-girl for a very simple reason: having babies is easier. You don't have to have $5000, and if you have a horrible misfortune like my poor girl-girl couple and due to no fault of your own have your babies taken away, well, short of cheating on your spouse there's no way to get more. Opposite sex couples have more options. (I did have one of them cheat, didn't think it took, moved them to a new house, and surprise! It's a boy. In typical Sim logic, her wife isn't even jealous ... maybe she thought the stork brought it!)

As for the size of a family, call me crazy but I have a couple with ten children. 4 adopted, 6 not. Yes, their lives are nuts and now they're elders with a toddler. Can you say yikes?

I like to vary my families. When I get tired of the chaos I play a single Sim or a childless couple/roommates. When I want a little chaos I play a smaller family with one or two kids. And when I feel like going for broke (flex knuckles) I play my family with ten children, six of which are in college and four still at home.

It takes a little practice and a lot of pausing, but you can do it. The biggest challenge I find is allowing the teens to make their goals. For first kiss I find it's best to send them to a community lot with a Sim they're already friends with and let it happen there.

And BTW, for first kiss, I don't care if its same sex or not ... it all depends on who's available. Any pair of lips in a storm ...

 I can barely handle 1 kid.

I don't create came-sex couples on The Sims 2 very often just because I want the parents' traits to be carried down the family and of course adopting can't do that. I used to make female and male couples on TS1 a lot.
