Ah, I've been waiting for one of these for ages!! I have so much junk in my game that I didn't even download! (All from houses I've got from other sites)
GREAT! Downloads cleaning time. I'm anxious to get home and use it. Don't you love getting some of those without any warning. Oh, well. This will make it so nice.
Sure, if you ignore the fact that it does a piss-poor job of identifying things and is generally insuperior to the Pherverstool that has existed for months and months, and is also slower than cold molasses and prone to crashing or failing to load.
Heh, my computer has been able to run TS2 and install flawlessly, no crashes, I guess I'm just one of the lucky ones. But yeah, homecrafter/bodyshop/content manager take a few seconds to boot.
I use Gary's Content Manager. It is very simple and easy to use. I go to my downloads folder. If I didn't download it and place a text file with the same name in that directory explaining why its there, I delete it. It makes content management so easy.
I like that idea, but what about downloads from the official site that end up with completely useless garbled up gobbledygook for a filename?
From what I can see there is not much official maxis content that is worth me downloading. I've downloaded a lot of walls and floors which I keep in a "wallsfloors" subdirectory of my downloads folder. Mods that have been done by Pescado I put in a "jmp" subdirectory. Other stuff I put in seperate directorys as well. It appears that clothes and meshes don't work in subdirectorys so they are all in my main downloads directory. Whenever I download something I create a text file with the same name as the file, and write where I got it and what it is. When I am cleaning stuff out that I don't use I can then easily see what stuff actually is. Unfortunately this is a very manual process. Fortunately it is worth the effort and helps me a lot. If I like a certain item, then I've got the info on where I got it and can go back and get some similar stuff.
While I agree that it is slow to load if you have a lot of stuff in your download folder, it actually has multiple ways of identifying things. You can see the file name of the content, or the tool tip of the content or the description of the content. Perhaps you have not been exploring those options. Personally, I tend to use the file name as that matches what it looks like in my download folder (should I want to cross reference.) I find that the only advantage that the Pherverstool has is that the Maxis tool will only look in the Maxis files, not in any file on your harddrive. Otherwise I've found that they are pretty much the same (even as to the crashability issues.)
It took ages to open, but once it was, I found it to be a very useful tool in sorting through all my downloads, I was rather brutal and got rid of a lot of stuff. Was kinda fun actually.
At least with the tool, I was able to get rid of the embarrassing undergarments I accidentally downloaded and installed...
Ts2 CM,I can't make it run!! Hi, i got a problem with my Ts2 Content Manager. I Downloaded it, unpack it in my C:\Documents and Settings\ *''shared folder'' \Mes documents\EA Games\The Sims 2 folder like specified and double-click on TS2ContentManager.exe. Nothing happen at all exept loading for about 2 mins. Can someone help me to benefit of this good prog? Thanks
Um ... 2 minutes isn't very long. How much custom content do you have? It can take several minutes to finish loading all the content before the game or its utilities start up.
I'm confused as to which language I have to download...there's no Australian flag just American and British. I have no clue which one my game is in. Does it matter? Cass.
LOL Cass ... I'd go for the one which best suits your internationalism. As far as I know they're the same and are probably only both there to avoid upsetting parochial brits who think the english language belongs to them or the few red-neck yanks who didn't realise it wasn't "american" ...
