Graduation party

  1. Graduation party

    Hi all

Is there any way to throw a joint graduation party? I had 3 sims graduate together in the same house and had to have 3 parties (by the third the guests were getting bored), one would have made more sense and been quicker.

AND, why do you lose all your money when you graduate (ok, I know you get the S20,000 to buy a house but my graduates had a good S15,000 when they graduated)? Is it possible to do something with it so future generations can enjoy it (like leave it under a bush)?

I might be wrong but Pescado's no free 20k hack seems to cure all this. Sims move out with a proportion of the family funds whether young adults or mature ones.

Or if you want to, you can get Pescado's money transfer object. This lets you transfer money to other sims. The equivalent of hiding it under a bush, without the need to buy a bush.

Here's how I saved the money: I waited until my sim had one day left in college and moved Marla Biggs (a game-created sim) into the dorm. Marla traded rooms with my sim, since I had all this cool furniture.

When my Sim's daughter goes off to college she'll move into Marla's dorm, Marla will unclaim the door, the daughter will claim it, and Marla will move out, back into the bin until daughter graduates.

Kind of complicated but I'm pretty sure it will work.

I also had fun giving Marla a makeover. With a new hairdo and outfit she's actually quite cute.

  5. SBWs, that's perfect (and is in fact what I've been planning to do with my houses when the occupents are getting old so that they don't become empty and too expensive to buy back).

So that clears the college cash issue, how about the party issue?

Well, here's how I understand the game working: everyone must leave either after their "pass" has expired (I forget how many hours they get after they've finished college) or after their graduation party.

However, I think the game only lets you have a party for one person at a time. With birthdays it's easy, everyone just gets their own cake if you have multiple sims with the same birthday. For graduations, I think it's just for the person in question, kind of dumb I think.

If your sims live in different dorms and you invite them to a graduation party they'll be wearing graduation gowns and hats. If they're in the same dorm, I'm not so sure.

So you can either 1) have a party for one sim when it's almost time for all of them to leave campus and invite your other sims (though if they live in separate dorms you still need to play them until it's time for them to leave) or 2) have separate parties and let them leave campus separately, which isn't so bad because that means if you recombine them into households in the "real" world they'll get all that extra cash. Unless you use the no free rides hack created by JMP, that is.

If someone knows how you can have a graduation party for more than one sim at a time, I'd be interested to hear! Otherwise, I'm pretty sure that's the way it works.

I just got University; so, the manual is still somewhat fresh (that and I did an online search :) ) . . . According to the manual:

    Celebrate
After your Sim finishes their last year, they have three days to wrap up college life before hitting the real world. This is a good chance to throw one last bash to celebrate their momentous achievement and cement the friendships they built with other students. . . . When the party ends, your Sim participates in the graduation ceremony and then leaves their beloved alma mater behind. . . . If your Sim doesnt have a party, theyre shuffled back to the real world without ceremony or fanfare at the end of 72 hours.

So, I suppose, have all kinds of parties. Just be sure the ones you want to work on relationships with at those parties haven't already had their parties and left, unless you can still invite them. I haven't gotten that far to find that part out.

  8. FYI (such a cool phrase...) the other students who aren't the focus of attention will just be in normal clothes, which is annoying cos in real life you would all have your gowns on and celebrate together as a house.

Oh well, it's just an annoying feature, at least I have learned how to keep the uni money (and the sims houses) passing through 'generations'.

Actually, birthday parties only need one cake. Anyone who ages with or without a cake will get the memory credit, as long as at least one cake is used.

Well, they'll still all have to leave seperately. The extra cash involved is almost ridiculously huge and entirely detracts from the fun. Since when did college graduates get to be stinking rich, anyway? That's not how *I* remember it working.

I know what you mean JM but there is an interesting kinda realism going on there. Most sim students have buy wants (clothes, electronics, expensive musical instruments...).

When I was getting my degree I had no money, no credit either. I existed on a small stipend from my father, what cash I could earn during the summer vacation and toward the end I squeezed a few extra simoleons out of my not-so-friendly bank manager in the form of a minute overdraft. I wore clothes from charity shops and played music on an old tin box. When my eldest graduated from med school he had debts up his eyebrows cupboards full of designer clothes, several maxed-out credit cards, cell phone, ipods, DVD players, LCD TVs. Heck! I was jealous. To add insult to injury he celebrated getting his degree by taking a 3 week holiday in Portugal to watch England's progress in the Soccer World Cup competiton. When I graduated I went on a driving tour of Scotland in an ancient Audi staying in crofters' cottages and checking out the local industries of tweed weaving, whisky distilling and fishing. Heaven! No jealousy. He's welcome to his life ... and his debts :p

When I was getting my degree I was living in a 2-bedroom townhouse apartment with hubby and a preschooler, and driving a beaten up, hand-me-down oldsmobile that resembled a Sherman Tank and we Christened "Rexy", and living off food stamps and $200 a week and dodging the bill collectors and struggling to pay the water bill and making sure we had the garbage tied up really good because the raccoons and river rats (a hybrid type of rat the size of a possum and the personality of a badger) and our elderly landlord would not go through it! If my son got too loud playing in the courtyard a grumpy old man would come outside and curse at him!! :) So, yes, I remember college poverty, just not in the way everyone else does. LOL

Now, as to DP's question about the partying: I don't really understand why they can't all graduate together, execpt for the same reason that everyone just stated, that each sim must leave individually. Maybe Maxis thought that each Sim deserved to have their very own party and invite their family and friends? That's the way I play it, unless that sim really doesn't have much family or friends. Then, what I do is allow the one with the big family tree to have the shindig, and then after they leave I allow the other one to call for the Taxi and move back to the neighborhood. I get the message, "so-and-so still has time to throw one more party", but I ignore it. :p Besides, I'm the Goddess of this little world, and what I say goes!!

But what fun is that? I like to have everyone blow out their own candles. Besides, I can't get toddlers to age without a cake, so the triplets each had their own, and as it was Francoise ended up being one day younger than her sibs.

Me either, LOL. But I had help from Mom & Dad. Not THAT much help, but some ... and Mirelly's right. I had a lot of hand-me-downs and my apartment came with a shower, stove, etc. I didn't have to buy them. Plus I rented, couldn't afford to buy. The game makes you buy your own home, so I think a little extra cash is appropriate ... Having said that one of these days I am going to get your no free cash hack, just for the challenge. Sometimes the game is a bit easy for me, now that I've got the basics down.

See, that's something I've never comprehended. Probably because I've always been inordinately stingy and you couldn't pry a peso from my cold dead hands with a crowbar. For many years after college, my vehicle of choice was a battered jeep that simultaneously served as my dwelling, which I salvaged from a junkyard. I mean, sure, I could have bought something better, but THAT WOULD HAVE COSTED MONEY.

To this day, despite the fact that I am actually quite wealthy, I have a penchant for salvaging and reusing junk in interesting ways. Or maybe this is the cause of my being wealthy.
