That's one twisted family tree ... I've been having some fun with my sims. As I've mentioned I started over with a small number of sims and am now starting my third gen. I think I can make it to fourth gen IF my sims cooperate and have two more boys. If they're girls I'll have to create a couple of guys once they get to college ... and I'll definitely have to do that if I want a fifth gen, because everyone will be related. Kind like the Tennessee hills, with restraint. So here it is in a nutshell, and if you can follow it you're smarter than me: Ischade started in college, and thus has no parents. She had Lilith with Wolf, who also started in college. Lilith and Ricardo had Sparrow. Lilith is also going to have a baby with Seamus, just to really mess things up. Lia and Dante had Cyn and Ricardo. Cyn and Wolf had Beatrice, which makes baby Bee Lilith's sister and Sparrow's aunt and cousin at the same time. Ricardo, as mentioned, is Sparrow's dad. He's also Saffron's dad. Lia died and Dante married Brandi. Their son is Antonio. Dante died and Brandi's shopping for a new husband. She will have at least one more child. Marcel and Delphine are the parents of Blanche, Maude and Francoise. Blanche is Saffron's mother. Maude and Seamus are the parents of Hermione. So Saffron is Sparrow's sister and Hermione is of course Saffron's cousin. Ginevra is the mother of Seamus, who is the father of Hermione. So, as far as I can figure, keeping the present adults out of it, Hermione can only have a child with Sparrow or Antonio. Beatrice can only have a child with Brandi's unborn child, should she have a boy. Saffron can have a baby with Brandi's or Lilith's unborn child, should they be boys. None of these children could have a child with any of the others. They would all be related. So I've painted myself into a corner. Hee hee ... this is fun.
In spite of the fact that it says I live in North Carolina, I'm a Tennessee mountain girl. I'll have you know that my family tree does have branches! My parents sent me to college so I could meet someone from a different mountain. I'm sure this same method could be applied to your sim situation.
Hmmm . . . Very interesting! I enjoy that little soap opera that's going on. Hermione with Sparrow or Antonio sounds about right. I had to sit there and draw little lines all over the place in my head.
You know, I've always found the tenneseans to be very intelligent, very nice, and very, ummm, normal. Much like those of us born in West Virginia. You know, all that inbred stuff really comes from Kentucky, dontcha know. (My apologies to anyone here from KY)
We have a small town in my country where the same is said ... except ... everyone in the town IS related. Its called Delmas if you want to know.
I think West Virginia is one of the most beautiful states in the country. It is "wild and wonderful". Of course Tennessee is even better. I'm sure every place has interesting customs. I have to admit I've visited one small town in my home state that everyone has to be related. I have never gotten motion sickness but I had to pull over for a moment driving myself! I hung on to those mountain roads by prayer and fingernails alone. I have never been to such an isolated place. I figure a wagon fell off the side of one of the mountains 200 years ago and they couldn't get out. It truly was one of those "you can't get there from here" places. Gary, you do realize the link for Delmas is primarily written in Afrikaner? (I guess that's the language.) Actually, I could read more than I thought but I couldn't find anything about everyone being related. I came across this though: "Firearm licences Renew your firearm licence, permit or authorization in terms of the Firearms Control legislation." Does South Africa have liberal gun laws? The notice listed renewal dates by birthday. That makes it sound like everyone is getting a license renewed! lol I was chatting with Pescado once and he wondered why I didn't carry a gun into the grocery store! I thought that absurd until I spent one evening trying to find out the gun laws in North Carolina vs Tennessee. I found a site with state by state regulations. Apparently in Montana you can go to Wal-Mart armed to the teeth.
Hmm...on paper my neighborhood's family tree isn't that messed up: And also I'm Tennessian and not every Tennessian is a country bumpkin, huh?
Well we used to have a high violent crime rate here, and a lot of people own weapons. That and all the rural areas are mainly farms, with a lot of game farms for tourists (where hunting is quite frequent). Liberal, but its soon to be changed, and then I have to go pay more money to get licences again. The problem is that there ARE laws currently, but they are not enforced, and then there's common sense, which hardly anybody follows. Stuff like making **** sure children do not even know where the gun safe is, let alone the safe combination etc etc. This is going way off topic now, or maybe not ... incest and guns ...
First of all, an abject apology to all of you Tennesseans. I meant no offense, just lightly poking fun. You can counter with the fact that Minnesotans are judgmental and passive aggressive, two things I've had to learn to grow out of and hope that I have. I actually wish I could live in the south, where there's such a thing as hospitality. Not that all Minnesotans are inhospitable; I've met some very nice people. It just took me a long time to make friends here, and I've heard people in the south are much more welcoming ... As for guns, shiver. I hate them with a burning passion and would never allow one in my home. Too many children are killed by their family gun, and I just hate the things on principle. I had no idea my silly little post was going to generate such discussion ... I think you're right, Zy, about the college on the other mountain. At least one of those sims is going to have to find a new branch ...
Inhospitable? Us in Minnesota...we didn't get the term "Minnesota Nice" for nothing. I work in a customer service department for an insurance company and our agents always tell us that they love dealing with us in Minnesota because we're all so nice. One of my best friends who grew up in Maine was shocked at how trusting and welcoming everyone was in the Midwest area. I've never heard anyone describe Minnesotan's as judgemental or inhospitable. I have always lived in Minnesota, so maybe my opinion is skewed, but I've never heard that.
Hmmm ... I think Minnesota Nice is a veneer. I think people are afraid to say what they really think here. Not that I'm any better, as my parents grew up here. I'm much bolder in writing than in person ... I'm not saying all Minnesotans are like that. I married one, after all. And I appreciate that in my neighborhood at least I feel at home, as it's full of Green Party-voting hippies. The People's Republic of Seward. I'm sure you're right about us being more trusting. I agree with that. People aren't just one way or another, so I apologize (again) for making a blanket statement. I was just trying to say that no region has a lock on perfection. There are some very nice things about Minnesota, which is why I still live here. I have carved out a very nice niche for myself. And now that I've been here awhile I have lots of friends. I'm just saying that newcomers often say it takes a long time to meet people, and I think that's true. I will refrain from making such statements in the future. Oy. Sorry to step on so many toes.
Always bear in mind, you can't please 100% of the people 100% of the time. All the types of people you've described are everywhere, small towns, big cities, open country, etc. After all, that's why we could all relate to the movie The Breakfast Club . . . a nerd, a jock, a criminal . . . Someone will always be there to take offense. I'm working on getting my family tree pretty buggered up as well. It's kind of funny to see what happens.
I am definitely much bolder in writting as well. I will agree that Minnesotans often don't say what they think, which is where I think the Minnesota nice comes from...we're all to nice to say something that could hurt another's feelings, even if it is something that should be said. I am guilty of that, and I know it. I also think that Minnesotans on a whole are getting more cautious when it comes to others as well. Our crime is getting worse. My boyfriend and I live in one of the nicer apartment buildings in Roseville and park in a "secure" garage. On Saturday (8/20) night, someone broke into one of our cars, broke both the locks and messed with the steering colum, we notified the police, and they said they would do extra patrol shifts in the area...on Sunday(8/20) the theives came back for the car and stole it, we haven't heard jack since. Apparently apartments around the entire twin cities area have been hit with car thefts lately, leading the police to believe that a car theft ring has moved into the area. --- situations like this are making us harder to get to know as we're putting our gaurd up more and more.
Thanks, Duzzy. I feel better. It's really fun to mess with the old family tree. I'm looking forward to seeing the results. That's true, Shana, and I think one of the reasons we've remained more trusting is the lower crime rate. I was the victim of road rage a week ago. I'm lucky I'm not dead. I'm not even hurt that badly, can't say the same for my car. People can be really violent when they put their minds to it, and I think in Mpls we've been sheltered from that somewhat ... but I think the honeymoon is ending. As for car crimes, that's the biggest crime area in our neighborhood, and all I can say is I'd rather it was my car than me. Preferably without me in it next time. And oh, reread your post. I'm so sorry your car got stolen. I hope your insurance covers the loss ...
