Nightlife??? or no?? i am sort of new to sims 2 - what is nightlife like?? what about university? Which one is better?
I enjoyed Sims 2, then University, now Nightlife. If you can, get both expansions. Sims 2 with Uni can sometimes seem to drag on and on. When you add NL, it adds all kinds more fun. Your young adults in college can now go downtown on dates and outings, meeting all sorts of new and interesting people. Edited to add: Bonuses of adding Uni . . . Extra want slots, as well as several new careers and cool career reward objects.
And don't forget that with NL, there is the Pleasure sim, the Vampires, the cars, the neighbour views, the inventory - NL was worth it.
NL added so much to my game. I was getting really bored with Uni. But as I've mentioned in other threads, I wouldn't want to be without the new functionality Uni offers. You need to install them in order, so like Chee-Z I'd suggest getting uni first. It's fun to play for a while, and then NL just opens it up to so many new potential situations ... I find the most interesting part of the game, now, is when they're in college.
I have liked NL so much better than Uni. But Uni added things like the lifetime wants and more want slots, plus the "Young Adult" life adds time to your sims and extra time to work on skills.
Uni also allows your sims who have graduated from college to start at a higher level on the career path when they first get a job, with more income.
Plus, isn't it true that the UNI careers are only available in UNI and if your sims have graduated? Those being the Paranormal career, the Life Sciences Career, the Cullinary Career, and ohhh, there's one more that I'm not awake enough to remember!
The Artist career. Yes, your Sims can only get those jobs if they've graduated, but it doesn't stop other Sims being able to use whatever career rewards they manage to unlock - at least, if I have a cow plant it usually eats at least three of my neighbour Sims when I'm not looking.... Career/Aspiration rewards are usable for all Sims.
Oh, is that new with Uni? I just thought I hadn't noticed it before. I love how quickly kids get skills when their parents have career rewards lying around ... Alice du Belleville got six mechanical points in one lesson from her dad's surgery machine, for example. The culinary career is avaible with standard sims 2. The four new careers are Artist, Natural Science, Paranormal and Show Biz. Lola Phoenix made it to the top of the Show Biz career, and is a Simmywood Icon, which is cool, but I'm most disappointed with her outfit!!!! Is anyone from EA listening? I want feather boas and slinky tacky dresses, people. Not a sweatsuit. I hate sweatsuits, especially the fugly gray one she has to wear. Ugh. Yes, you have to be careful with that cow plant. It ate a visitor to my witch house in my previous game. One way to control it is to fence it in and don't include a gate. Only add a gate when you WANT it to misbehave, or if it gets hungry and you need to feed it.
Yes, the Artist career came with Uni. I'd like it if they had a Music Major at Uni - it would be ideal for that rock-chick girl and her roomies, since they all seem to love music (her name's Roxie but I don't remember her surname). Wouldn't it be just so cool to have a 'Rock God' Sim? How much do they earn at the top of the Showbiz career??? I couldn't believe how much they earned near the bottom of that track...
It's a pretty good payola. I want to say $5000 but I could be wrong. I'll check when I get home if you want me to. She's an elder but hasn't retired from Show Biz (would you?) The biggest single paycheck I've found is the Ecological Guru paycheck. You work once a week, for 12 hours straight, come home all in the green and earn $10,000. That one rocks, and is perfect for anyone with kids at home, or whose lifetime want is Max out 7 skills. Plenty of time to work on stuff other than work, and when you do go to work you come home refreshed. That's my kind of job.
Yeah, I had George McCarthy get there after he'd graduated Uni. 10,000 a week would be brill, but not too sure about the uniform... I mean, fig leaves? What if they fell off?! The hardest things I find when it comes to job promos is making and maintaining enough friendships, and also sometimes I just find it too much of a chore to build some skills past a certain level, as the higher the skill level, the harder it is to get the next one. Hence, most of my Sims just amble along in the same job until they retire, unless they get lucky with chance cards or something. I did have one of my Legacy Sims get to the top of the Business career track, when she was (or about to become) an elder. Another Sim who married into the family reached Mad Scientist. My original Legacy Sim's son was a UFO Investigator by the time he retired.
I had a sim wear it for her everyday clothing for a little while but it just cracked me up too much, so I let her dress more, ah, modestly. That is by far my favorite work uniform, though.
I have several Mad Scientist, several Criminal Masterminds, and several Business Tycoons. This next generation will have a bunch of Chief of Staffs, Captain Heroes, and maybe some scattered Criminal Masterminds, Business Tycoons, Mad Scientists, and people reaching the top of the Military, Slacker, Art, Drama, and Psychology careers. Still need a Natural Scientist in my neighborhood, but I haven't determined who that will be yet.
I've got my next gen sims' careers planned out too, except for the toddler. Have to see how her personality develops. My first gen is a pleasure sim who is a Simmywood Icon and a Knowledge (former Fortune) Sim who made Chief of Staff. (He's permaplat, she's not. Her LTW was 50 first dates, in other words, unattainable. I think she's had 3. They got married young and haven't strayed.) My current generation consists of two knowledge scientists who used to be natural scientists and are married to each other (she reached guru but since her LTW was mad scientist I had her switch to a new career), a newly employed slacker, and two unemployed, married romance vampires who make their living by the skin of their teeth. (Oooh, pun.) Unemployed is actually kinda fun, and challenging. Keeps them from getting boring (or sunburned, LOL).
