    more invisible helpers

I've died plenty and gone crazy often enough, but now I have an invisible grim reaper and an invisible shrink. no way to interact with them. actually the reaper's scythe is visible, but that's it. the shrink picks people up and so on, proper sound effects, but can't be seen. is it just this lot? or these awful people? they are pretty awful, it's true. trailer trash. my kind.

    Lmao!

I think Jiko means that when ever the Grim Reaper or Shrink are generated, they do the usual tasks, but are invisible?

Apparently you also have an invisible Mrs Crumplebottom now, Jiko?

my game has just turned the exact same way! i was just about to post my little question about it but then i saw someone else has it too! so anyone know how to fix this wee problem? mine didnt start up until i got nightlife for christmas, and then it didnt happen immediately, maybe after a week or so. also some of my icon pictures have dissapeared as well, like for instance all memories are just blank green or red squares...............

What hacks you got, your Cheeseyness? :)

Yes, that's it exactly - someone dies, I hear the chuckling, see a floating scythe, eventually the light comes and they disappear, but no Reaper. Someone gets real lonesome and I hear the Shrink Bunny sound, the sim gets slapped around, but no Shrink to be seen.

This also happened for me about a week after getting Nightlife for Christmas.

NO HACKS! This computer is not even hooked up to the net.

Mirelly, I'm just not closing up shop to be out of town for several days, so I will certainly send you specs as soon as I return (panting for sim time!). I wonder if this also explains why the screen is black each time I change 'places.' I thought it was Nightlife's default, but maybe not. For instance, loading a lot or going to a club, and so on, the screen is black, then the control menu appears, then the scene, a few seconds later. see you soon!

i, like jiko have no hacks. i am also a computer idiot so you will have to be a little more specific with what you want to see with the system specs (im so ashamed...)
well to update anyway i downloaded the patch and it seems to have fixed the invisible preblem - i know this to be true because now i have a shrink standing motionless in my sim's beautiful kitchen. you cant communicate with him at all so i dont know how to move him - is there a cheat or something to get rid of him.
jiko your game and my game must be buddies because before they got shipped off from the factory they devised a plan on how to piss off their future owners - my game also does the black screen thing but i just put it down to my computer being a bit slower than usual lately - i have cleaned it out so i hope my game will quicken up. i didnt notice wether this prob was fixed with the patch....

Press Ctrl+Shift+C and type 'move_objects on' (without the quotes) in the cheat box. Then go into build or buy mode and click the shrink and press delete. Bring up the cheat box again but this time type 'move_objects off'.

The thread Mirelly links to tells you how to find out your system specs.

    Help

HELP!!!! I have invisible furniture in one of my dorms. I sold the cheap pine bed and upgraded to a better bed and such in several of the rooms. Then when my Sims graduated I sold the furniture again and left the room empty until someone else got sent to University. I once again bought furniture for the room and played for a while. I saved, quit the game and came back to play the next day and the furniture is now invisible. The room looks empty but when I try to buy more furniture to replace it, I get a message saying I can't intersect other objects if I try to place it where the other furniture was. I also can't click on the invisble furniture to use it. Those rooms are small so the only place I could put a bed is in the middle of the room where there was no furniture before. I can't fit anything else in there because of the invisible stuff. I have downloaded the patch and it doesn't help. I have several rooms that appear empty now because of this. Has anybody else had this happen? Anyone have a clue how to fix it? Can I tear down the dorm and build a new one? If I do that, will the game treat it like a dorm and send kitchen help and townies to populate it or will it treat it like a Greek house?

It could be that dormies have moved in and have claimed the room. I'm not sure if you can put objects in a room once a dormie has moved in.

But once in build mode you should be able to see all objects. I've done that before to Dormie rooms. I've taken some of "their" stuff and changed it, or put it in other rooms, such as computer desks when I don't have enough money to buy a new one kind of a thing. I'm not sure what the issue is though unfortunately. But don't worry, several of the mods here are wonderful and hopefully someone can help you.

I can see the objects in build mode in 2 of the rooms occupied by townies but not in the room my Sim is inhabiting.

Yup I had this happen to me. It appears to be a bug because when I moved all my playable sim out of the dorm the "empty" room suddenly had all the furniture in it that I was pretty sure was there. Mind you this was a room occupied (claimed) by an NPC but it was empty (furnitureless) in build/buy mode as well as when my playable sims entered the room when it wasn't locked. The NPC had died and was replaced by a new one and I think that was the source of the problem. (Is it just me or is it that since NL came out that dorms don't work any longer. NPC dormies seem unable to find their own rooms and are more likely to kibbutz in a playable sim's bed (when a door is left unlocked) or else to catnap face down in a bowl of macaroni cheese. Death is inevitable in such situtations ... :(

    Another dorm glitch

I moved a sim into a small dorm and the game told me that the NPC would move out to make room. But she doesn't leave. :( On occasion she unlocks her door, so I have my sim go in and sleep on her bed. The last time I visited that dorm I had 6 students living in a 5 room dorm. 5 are under my control (all cousins.) The NPC is a redhead with pigtails who's been moved around from one dorm to another because of my gameplay. Guess she's decided she's had enough of moving.

Too busy now to check on them. No problem with seeing furniture, though. This is all post-NL.

Dearest Mirelly or other moderators: Here are my specs. I've quit going to the family with the invisible reaper because he kills a character and I can't plead with him. It has happened several times in a row. The black screen is still the same at the beginning of each move. The Reaper and Shrink haven't shown up elsewhere, so I don't know if it is just this lot. I do have the invisible Mrs. Crumplebottom as well.

Thanks! If I can ever help you interpret the results of your CT scan or liver function panel, let me know.

Oh what a heartfelt plea. Jiko, dear. Your puter looks OK from where I am but if thie problem is only affecting one (or certain) family(ies) then the solution is to nuke the affected parts. That is: move 'em out and bulldoze the house.

The first thing to look at is your custom content situation. Drag the folder:
    \My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\Downloads
onto the desktop to render them innaccessible to the game. NB this may not cure all existing problems but it will prevent more developing. You'll have to play and see what effect it has. Any houses or sims that were using custom content will, of course, be affected to some degree or another.

If you wish to be adventurous you might try to add a couple of new downloads:

These will add 2 new buyable objects with which you may experiment to try to repair your lots if bulldozing them isn't attractive.

But first, just to be sure (as you haven't given the date and version number of nv4-disp.dll), update your display driver:
nVidia Drivers (GeForce, TNT etc.) (NOTE: Select the top option on each of the three panels of options then download the file you're offered and double-clcik to run it. Windows will warn you that downloading an executable file may be hazardous; tell it to mind its own business just this once :p ).
