3 questions I had university flake out on me today... so after an unsuccessful attempt to re-install (machine won't read the disc) I spent the day deleting duplicate files. if nothing else the computer ought to run faster. 1) Has anyone out ever gotten real EA support when their disc seemingly failed? 2)how many downloads are too many? I mean should I limit how many wallpapers, paint colors, and outfits(etc. etc.) I install or does that only depend on your graphics card. 3) How many times have you had to start over from scratch?
Oh, Michelle, honey, I'm so sorry you're having these problems!! I don't have any real answers for you. I know that you can have a disk replaced my Maxis if you have your game registered, and there is a fee, about $15 plus shipping I think. As to number of downloads, I don't know how many is too many. I figure I'm there myself. LOL I have a couple of gigs worth in my Downloads file. Starting over from scratch: I'm doing it for the second time since I got my game with my new neighborhood.
since there don't appear to any scratches customer service suggests that I try to exchange however I don't remember where I bought it..... rats. next time I'll have to remember to stick the receipt in the case.
Okay...we know my computer expertise is nil but I lurk on many forums. So if no one can tell you what to do here are my suggestions. Go to the EA site and print off the instructions for uninstalling the game completely. Hitting the uninstall button on the game doesn't really remove everything. Some people have to install the official patch to get the game to re-install. Many people seem to have it balk at reading one of the discs without it. If you can install the main game, download the patch before installing university. If this works, make your next stop pescado's critical fixes before you do anything else. Nip all those iteration problems in the bud.
It was a great idea, Zy. But my disk 1 won't even read in my machine (the irony is disk 2 reads fine.) I wonder if I could just buy disk 1 somewhere?
Borrow one from someone. Got a friend or relative that's got the game? If you've got University you don't need the originals to play.
cost about 13$ to replace (Plus time away) which beats repurchasing... so will send it away. sigh. ea has been helpful and their steps to follow have been clear and detailed. so any responses to questions 2 or 3?
I thought I had lost my neighborhood for good at one point, and had started another from scratch. Then after a reinstall and an experiment, I realized that I hadn't lost my neighborhood afterall...
Having reached all the limits available for TS1, I've watched for this in TS2. I haven't noticed a cut off point yet. I am better about weeding out things this time though. (My TS1, EP's and all downloads are still loaded...I can't figure out how to save my downloads...they are a mess! :() It may be my imagination but the only thing that has bothered me is the hairstyle category. No one has really mastered modding these yet so it's possible that duplicate guids are overwriting some of my hair. Some of my hairstyle downloads just disappear. I hope it isn't because there is a limit. I've reinstalled once....when I got University. I even trashed all my downloads at that time because I knew they weren't EP ready. I've played very conservatively because it appears being "creative" causes problems. I don't have the patience to fix major snafu's. I'm glad EA/Maxis came through for you. I'd be upset if after purchasing and registering the product they wouldn't replace a defective disc. I don't think it should cost you 13.00 to do it either. It is better than having to buy a new game though.
Well I don't exactly fit under the free replacement guides because I've had the game more than 90 days/ So I will send it with the check and then if they discover the defect couldn't be avoided maybe they will send the check back. something funny tho, is on the official site where it shows what games you have installed there is now a hole ripped out of where the university logo used to be. somebody has a sense of humor.
