400,000 simoleans down the tubes? What was once my legacy family (Sparrow) is still, at the moment, fairly confortable, financially speaking. We sold the family estate (because of Sybil's very difficult pregnancy) and moved out to a small 'country cottage' . We thought the fresh air and environs would ease baby #3 into the world. As it turned out, Sybil still had a great deal of trouble--the change of scenery did not eliminate the problems with the pregnancy. We managed to rescue baby Emmeline with the help of JMP's lot debugging box and Merola's lovely painting, which we then foolishly sold for a little profit. All was well, or so we thought. *sigh* Sybil, it seems, was not as careful about certain things as she should have been. She tried again for baby #4. We did not guess the truth until she ran for the bathroom and lost her lunch. What a mess. OK, we thought. We still have the yellow box stored in the attic, just in case. But surely, THIS time would be different. Nope. The baby girl almost died. Our thanks, once again, goes to Uncle Drake who finally gave in to the baby girl's woeful crying, picked her up off the floor where Sybil had abandoned her, and fed the child and put her to bed. And the marvelous, lot debugging box? Not quite up to the damage done by Sybil's last pregnancy. We are able to save and quit the neighborhood, and go back to the household at will, but, unhappily, once there we can't buy or build a thing. (Other neighborhood houses are not affected.) I am voting for Emmeline to stay with the old folks, to give up her dreams of college. Her baby sister, on the other hand, will have to leave, because that is the only way she'll be able to get her hands on Merola's painting and get herself a first name. You have to have a first name in order to survive in Sim world. You're not invited anywhere unless you have a first name. If Emmeline were to leave, too, the family money would be lost to the...uh...what? Sim taxes? Family estates can be taxed pretty heavily, I hear. Should I try moving again? Maybe into a fully furnished house that includes Merola's painting AND JMP's yellow box? Or should I let Sybil and George and Drake plant their tombstones here. My favorite, Kiara, has already passed on, escorted by Hula girls. And her pretty platinum urn is blocking access to one of the bathtubs. Quite a nuisance, really, but no one can touch it since Build, Buy, and even Rewards are out of reach. :( I suppose this looks like it belongs in a Troubleshooting forum, but really, it's just more of one family's sad story. Sybil's a troublemaker, no question, probably because of her old dad, Wynter. I'm just debating whether to go ahead and move the family back to it's mansion or build something entirely new.
From what I see, you can probably move the family out, but before you move them back into the same house (or a different one), put the debugger box and the painting in there and arrange EVERYTHING the way you want it just in case it doesn't work. That way, no urns blocking bathtubs. That's really awful that your baby is bugged like that. Wonder if it'd be bad or good to...um...let the social worker have the baby to save the older peeps...
will the "debugger box" take care of a problem like: they pick up the dirty dishes then put them right back on the table in the same spot and the only way to get rid of them is to delete the table??
Might do, Michelle Lyn, Sometimes a RL family will just up sticks and move away from a neighborhood and never return ... maybe it's time for the Sparrows to do the same. (I know it's s'posed to be a legacy family ... but well you've broken about every legacy rule anyway ... ) Anyway that's what I would do
Every rule has long been broke . I keep refering to them as the 'Legacy' family because that's how they started out and because it's the family I've spent the most time with. They've got the most generations and the most (earned without kaching and motherlode) money. Let me see now: Duke and Andrea had three kids (I'll count in adopted here, too) who were fruitful and multiplied, producing eight kids in the third generation, who have, so far (because it's going to take a lot of time,) produced six kids in the fourth generation, four of those being the children of silly Sybil. It's gotten to be quite a family tree. Four generations! And if you add in the spouses there are about 25 related Sims. Yes, I've pretty much given up on Sybil and George (nee McCarthy) and Drake the Llama. That household is haunted with problems that are related, I firmly believe, to Wynter, whose picture still shows up as part of the family although he is long dead. I guess I'll just leave them all in peace in their country house and not move them back to the mansion. I'll leave one of the kids there to see if the 400,000+ will survive Wynter's curse. It's the money I'm now trying to preserve. But it might very well carry the bug with it. The Sparrow bloodline and the name, though, I expect to survive . Two of Sybil's kids are now in college. With one kid left behind, I'll try what Chee-Z suggests and (after the oldies are gone) move her into a completely furnished new house. Michelle, I don't thing the debugger box does that. The options are limited and the only one I could use was 'reenable controls.' It's a handy box to have available though. Reenabling controls is a biggy as far as buggy problems go.
When I get home I'm going to look at that yellow box and see what else it does. I'll let you know the particulars. At the moment I'm taking a break of a few minutes while at work. I just finished reconciling a handful of scrambled accounts and I think the blood has congealed in my brainpan. We developed a minor problem when we closed the books at year end. In order to get balances for the 12 month period ending June 30, I have to print a year-to-date April 30 income statement . Go figure. The general ledger is way out of wack. I'm doing the accounting the old fashioned way at the moment -- pencil and paper. No one knows when we'll get this straightened out. I haven't pulled my hair out in chunks yet but it's pending. Anyway, back to the real world of Sims. Since JMP hasn't stopped by to tell me that my Sim neighborhood is going to go supernova from these little Sparrow family bugs, I will hang on to the family for awhile longer.
An update. Michelle, if you happen to check in here. JMP's yellow box does the following: Reenable Controls (the only one I've used.) Fix AWOL Headmaster Rerandomize Sim Generator Toggle Lifetime Want bit Reroll Lame LTW Clear Offworld Loiterers As to what exactly you get if you choose any of numbers 2 through 5 listed above, I cannot tell you.
thanks for the info... changing the lifetime want sounds......... tempting. guess I'll have to try it.
Baby girl now has a name--Dalila. I had to wait until she was old enough to leave the house and go downtown (tagging along with Mom and Uncle Drake.) Low and behold, Merola's Painting just happened to be hanging on a wall of the Polish Dance Club. Meanwhile, her older sister Emmeline has gone off to college. Emmeline moved into her Aunt Kiara's old dorm--and her old room! All her stuff was still there! We had vacated that dorm a long time ago (when Kiara was a girl courted by Drake the Llama.) There was even a dirty plate aswarm with flies in the study area. And Felicia--never very friendly--was sitting in her usual place, reading and thinking a lot about the fact that she had not yet, even after all this time, declared a major. Felicia pointedly ignored Emmeline who tried several times to make conversation. Karen, however, (red hair and braids) was friendly enough. Emmeline will do just fine. This girl, Felicia, is a pain. Sits around reading, doesn't talk, doesn't move into the dorm, eats and does homework in the cafeteria, goes off to class, and comes back! And sits around reading all night. Sometimes she's not all there . I think she's a ghost, and I have attached the evidence.
Do NPCs flunk out? Those NPCs often seem emotionally disturbed. There's a guy in one of my dorms who's locked in his room and won't come out. He's miserable in there, projecting desperately red thoughts of entertainment. I've added another shot of the fading Felicia. It's curious, but just a glitch, I presume. An update, though. In the dorm next door, Cleve Cox and Meadow Thayer graduated and moved back to Baltimore. The next morning, who should show up to claim Meadow's old dorm room, but Felicia! She's now a dorm mate of Sheila Mae and Griffin Sparrow (who are the older sister and brother to Emmeline and Dalila Sparrow, all of them the 4th generation of my failed Legacy family .) Griffin was attracted. He started up a conversation with Felicia, something Emmeline had not been able to do. Griffin and Felicia seem to have interests in common. They talked for quite a while. Now I'm going to have to figure out how to take control of Felicia. I want to see her goals and aspirations and get her to declare a major.
The campus NPCs are quite sweet in their way. The evil folks of the Willis greek house used the passing NPCs with reckless disregard for their aspirational well being. No sooner would a NPC appear than one or another of the residents would leap up, grab the sim-O-vac and go greet the hapless passer-by. Poor old Waylon Trottier, he of the girlie locks and simpering face and 1970s throw-back brown suit, got the worst of these attentions and he soon became a more or less permanent fixture with his flour bag baby and invisible friends ... a total figure of fun. Until Caitlyn joined the house. Soon she had made friends with the dopey Trottier, eventually she got him to pledge and after that his life turned around dramatically. He got a decent haircut, bought some less doofussey clothing and eventually graduated scl in drama. He married Caitlyn and later had plastic surgery to help him reach the top of his sho-biz career ....
I just love a happy ending ... Meanwhile, back in the 'hood, Brandi Alighieri nee LeTourneau is having a heck of a time getting Sheldon the mailman to fall in love with her. Do service people just play harder to get? Is it because he's the only mailman? One would think there would be backups ... he plays the piano beautifully which makes me suspect he'd be a good provider LOL, but if he's going to continue to play hard to get she'll just have to branch out. So I'm trying to get her to meet another NPC, anyone but Goopy. Brandon is OK and if got him to move in I'd get rid of that kilt ... but she hasn't met anyone, just Benjamin Long of the limited social skills and she's not that desperate, yet. I love the transparent co-ed! It sounds like a good name for a mystery. I had a cursed "playable" NPC. I invited him to move in so I wouldn't lose all that nice stuff (my sims were graduating) but he had a glitch that insisted he didn't have enough skills to make studying worthwhile, even when he did ... so I kicked him out and moved an NPC named Melanie in instead. She was friends with one of my sims. I've taken to vacuuming any NPC that annoys me. I've gotten the cow three times, by various sims. I also hate those elders that show up and encourage my sims to exercise. So annoying. I got the woman once, but they're kinda wily.
Griffin has taken a shine to the ghostly coed but she's playing hard to get (or see ). She seems to have one foot in this world and one in the next. I attach a picture of Griffin holding conversation with the 'fading beauty.' Griffin has since moved into a house and we (he and I) are hoping to woo her enough to get her to move in. I've only just noticed something everybody else here may already have discovered. The NPCs that share the dorm seem to lock their rooms only when they're out at class or at night when they are 'sleeping.' At least this was the case in Griffin's dorm. Didn't notice in others. Griffin's cousin Egan decided to make friends with Armando Tan who never seemed to leave his room, and just walked in and started talking. Armando behaves more normally now, going to and from classes.
I'd swear that girl was a ghost, except she's in color ... how very weird, but kind of cool! I wonder what caused that to happen.
He's not the only one, there is also Dagmar, the extreamly attractive female mailwoman, who by the way makes gorgeous offspring as well. I had one of my characters marry her, and then a Candice appears as the mailwoman...then she was married into the family as well to Dagmar's son. Now there is some redhead...the name escapes me...so if you keep working on Sheldon, I'm sure something will come out of it.
About the ghost/invisible dorm resident. I had one of those a week or so ago. If I remember correctly, mine happened around the time I moved someone new into an already full dorm. One of the dormies had to unclaim their door so my CAS sim could live there. That dormie then would sometimes become transparent. I think that's when that happened.
Pao Mellon is also a mailman. But he's a family sim, so he seemed a little more, ummm, easier than Sheldon.
