Here they are guys. I did promise you - didn't I!! :D The photografer is Jenny Sfstrm, a girl in our club . Just to try to get all of you content. I'm presenting the best I have over all.

First my very first champion. A Satin chocolate himalaya. She got her Best In Breed at the Swedish Championship 2000 only 5,5 months old. She's the mother of Ulmo who Fae is trying to do a smiley of. He full name is: SV-00, SCH Polstjrnans X-antippa.

Then is Belladonna and Bilbo and theire awards in breeders groups. The orange ribbon is from now in november and the other from this august at Berga Show.

The third photo is from the finals. There are guinea pigs all down to the very end and some more. And the english Best In Show judge Fred Holmes judging a Crested Pink Eyed White. (not mine).

Next it's my 3 pigs and the Stockholm trophy. It' is : SCH Polstjrnans Belladonna, Polstjrnans lanor and Polstjrnans Bilbo.

Last is Polstjrnans Belladonna and her 4 certificates she's taken in a row. Haven' got her championregistration finished - so I haven't got her Diploma yet.

To view the pictures open them in winzip.

Awwe thanks Tim!. It's ok - I just edited the text, no probs at all. :classic:

And I got a phonecall late saturday night from a guinea pig buyer. She's also a breeder. 2 Years ago she bought a sow from me - Petronella. Petronella took her third and last necessary cert and is also a champion now. :classic:
I really got her to the right place!!! It feels really good when you sell a pet and it goes to the right place. Soon I will get home pictures of her. :classic:

A small insight in genetics on colours...

I wasn't fond of red eyes in the beginning myself. The colour is normally softer. The red is enhanced here by the camera flash. Today I see it as just another point to keep an eye on in the breeding programme. :D

Red eyes is not an albinogene at all here. It's caused by a mutation in the gene that gives red colour. The gene prevents colours and so you get white fur and red eyes. First step takes away some colour in the eyes and you get dark ruby eyes, Chocolates and zobels have this. The next mutationstep gives red eyes. ;)

There is also one more mutation to consider here. That is the mutation in black colour. The first step gives dark brown fur - chocolate, the next gives Beige, which should be a light brown like corrugated cardboard. :p

On top of this there are mutations wich gives dark eyed whites. They are a nonpatterned zobel genetically but have somehow maintained the full colorization in eyes. :p

It's a lot to learn about genetics and colours on animals. I'm still just a beginner, but had to learn the basics very quickly as I had to actually create both chocolate and silveragouti from scratch. Thre were no such to get in the summer -97 when I started. But with the excellent help of my dear friend Minna Thom (Amira's guinea pigs) and the swedish expert on colour genes, Monica Willnerth (Milky Way's), I've come this far. I can never thank them enough for all theire help. There are a lot of otheres as well. The people in the Swedish Association for Guine Pigs are really nice!! :classic:

The points that needs enhancement still is:
*Stabilizing the breeds and getting rid of unwanted white hairs, hite and golden spots. (shows now and then)
*getting rid of flat foreheads, more width on muzzle and between eyes on all breeds.
    *better undercolour on chocolates
    *better saturization on satin chocolates
*narrower ticking and thinner bellybands on agoutis
*much more even colour on beige as well as I need it to be a lil bit "colder".
Of course there are shortcuts. but i'm not going to take them, since it uses very close inbreeding.

A lot of work, but oohh so fun! :classic:

    Thanks Tess. :classic:
Tomorrow I'm gonna put a sow and a boear together that have given real promising beige ealier. No guarantees, but maaaaybe there's a good one coming. :classic: The result can be expected as the absolut earliest in 10 weeks from now. Depending on when she goes into heat. So between 10-16 weeks from now and I'll know how many babies there is and a first glimpse.... :p
