Cleaning Out Downloads: Some Progress I thought I would start a thread talking about my progress in cleaning out my downloads folder and getting my game to run more efficiently. This is a common problem, as we were discussing in prior threads. I thought maybe some one could find this helpful, and maybe someone could add their pointers and/or experiences. Step #1: I have tried moving some of my files into subfolders. You can move homecrafter files (walls, floors, terrains) and recolored objects into subfolders. You cannot move Body Shop files, such as clothes, makeup, and genetics. Step #2: Updated to the latest version of Sims PE. The website is http://sims.ambertation.de . Step #3: Opened Sims PE and backed up my neighborhoods, just in case. I don't think that messing with the objects will do anything to my neighborhoods, but again, it's just in case. Step #4: Clicked on "Scan Folders" under Plug-ins. Step #5: Under Scanner Settings I checked: Thumbnail scanner, caption scanner, clothing scanner, and skintone scanner. Then I went to the pull-down menu at the top of the page, went to "Downloads" and clicked on "scan." Now, this has taken about 45 minutes so far. It is STILL scanning. I don't know if it is simply because I have so many downloads, or because I have so many active scanners checked. It's almost done now, so I will go and play with it, then come back and give an update. Again, any advice will be appreciated, since I am pretty-much PE-Illiterate, and the last time I tried to do anything to my objects with Sims PE I messed my game up badly.
After it finally finished scanning, I started looking things over. With SimsPE, I could have the thumbnail and a description of the item brought up. The software asked me if I want to "Enable" it. Things I didn't like, mainly accessories such as eyecolors and masks, I was able to "disable." Oh, and homecrafter files like walls and floors. That doesn't mean, however, that they are deleted. I can't delete them from there. Also, Sims PE does not show the user what the item actually looks like in-game. the hairstyles, clothing, and items So my next step this evening will be to open up Body Shop, go through the genetics, hair styles, and clothes, and delete what I am not using. Then I will open homecrafter and see if I can do the same thing. Then I can go in-game and delete the objects that, again, I am not using.
Sounds like you are getting a lot done. I still haven't returned my objects to my download folder. I've done a lot of cleanout of unused clothes and walls/floors, and have been organizing my objects into subfolders, but I haven't actually put any of the objects/recolors back into the game. (I did put the folder in, but the increase in the load time made me pull it back out again.) Of course, if I wasn't having such fun with my University students I'd have a lot more time to work with organizing stuff. I suspect that this summer I'll have gotten over the "oh, and I want to do this with this crowd, and I have to get so and so graduated, and ...." that seems to be unending. Problem is, I'm still downloading like crazy. It's just not going into the game yet. (Well, the clothes are, but that's because I need more YA stuff, especially for the guys. I'm always on the lookout for mens wear.)
