College Dropout Can't Buy Groceries Ashley Pitts dropped out of college to become a nanny to a pair of vampires (now THERE's a career move ...) and now he can't go grocery shopping. He can order groceries to be delivered (whew), but when I send him to the store, he can't click on the grocery items. Other sims can, which leads me to believe that this is a punishment from on high for abandoning his higher education in favor of becoming a nanny/DJ (he loves to spin those platters, and it pays pretty well!) Or, a game glitch. Doesn't matter if he's downtown or in the main town, the dude can't shop. Just a little FYI, as this may happen to your dropouts as well. And here I was, trying to save that $50 delivery fee. With three unemployed adults (YOU try putting "vampire" on a job application), money is a bit scarce. I don't cheat, and I hate those stinkin money trees. They have a few leftover from college but I'm letting 'em die. So, playing for tips, DJ-ing, tending bar or barista-ing (is that a word?) are the only options left to my enterprising little family. They do OK. If all else fails they can sell their wedding gifts. (I give my sims gifts ... I mean, you get them in real life, right?)
Have you thought of making them artists (a painting from a creativity level 10 sim sells for around $400-600) or novelists (around $1200-3500). Once you sell your first masterpiece or best seller you also start rolling those great aspi wants (6000 points for masterpiece, 8000 points for best seller.) Wouldn't be cool if "Earn 100,000 simoleons selling paintings" or "Write 20 best selling novels" were available as LTW's? As for the shopping glitch, are you sure he's shopping in the right neighborhood? The game only allows you to buy groceries in the neighborhood in which that sim lives (e.g. Pleasantview residents can't buy food Downtown and vice-versa.) Or it may be that the game still thinks he's living at college and will only let him shop there?
Ooh, thanks! You're right! I had him shop in Porta de Luca and he lives downtown! I'm going to have to send him to the downtown grocery store and see if that works better. Now that I think of it, Zaire is the other sim who does the shopping, and she lives "in town" not downtown. Thanks! I never thought of that. Yeah, I thought about the artist thing but I'm kind of short attention span girl and it gets boring ... still, now that they have a kid and are acting more domestic they could paint some of the time. They're both really high on the creative scale, since they're musicians. I sold the computer 'cuz they needed cash and she always gave me a "you're kidding" look when I asked her to chat or whatever. She's not into electronics, I guess. And he never used it. Now that they have a kid, though, he might need it to get those fun points back up ... guess they'll have to earn some dough so they can ... earn some dough. Novel writing is a good idea. I could even make Ashley do it. Ain't I mean? "My Life with the Vampires" by Ashley Pitts. Sure to be a bestseller.
LOL SBW. After ignoring my first few sightings of a vampire I'm now regretting my cowardice. I've been desperately seeking one for (real) days now and nutt'n! Dang!
In my game at least, the Countess seems to like Rodney's hangout. I've seen her there several times. Good luck. I thought you had some hack that let you call everyone? Or doesn't it work with NL. You could try changing your sim's turn-ons to vampires with blonde hair (or red hair, if they like boys) and then calling the matchmaker until you get a vampire date. Once you have a player vamp you can bite whomever you like. No vamp would be caught dead at the Crypto-O-Night club, though. I guess it's for poseurs. Seriously, I've never seen one there. I made my own vampire nightclub last night with a pit that descends into ... the ground. I'm gonna put flamethrowers down there, just for atmosphere. Finally figured out how to make a basement! With some help from my genius daughter. Scary how good kids are with technology these days, she says in an old codger voice.
I finally decided I wanted a vampire in my game, so I made a sim and her turn ons were Vampirism and formal clothes (because I wasn't sure what color hair the Count had in that neighborhood). She asked for 3 blind dates, paid the max for each one, and NEVER got a vamp. For crying out loud, none of them were wearing formal clothes either! I was so p!$$ed off! Finally I just cheated using SimPE. Oops. [Mod note] pissed isn't a rude word ... apparently but even if it was it is the height of bad manner to make a representation of it with symbols. Please take care with your language in future! [/mod note]
Thanks for the tips Witch-gal. I'll be checking my options next time I load up. Feeling a bit cynical at the moment ...
My Countess likes the Spa. I made my sim go there on a last resort after a whole night of eating and dancing, and there she was, working out on the exercise machine! Now Calantha is a vampire. Also, when she became one, all of her former makeup mysteriously disappeared. Does some makeup not appear on vamp skin? Also, conveniently after spending about half a RL hour looking for her Downtown, I read that if you made a sim with vampirism as a turn-on and payed the matchmaker a lot of money for a blind date, you could get one of the Grand Vampires!
I have a sim who wants to study vampires (in my imagination anyway) and she met the count ... at the Crypto Night Club, first try. So I guess it's just serendipity. Spike tried everything and couldn't befriend the countess; his niece is friends with the count already. Maybe he's just friendlier than she is ...
Most makeup looks different on vamp skin. Dark red or black lipstick looks best. Eyeliner shows up, base does not appear to, and colors fade. You'll have to experiment.
