Do I have to delete my downloads before I install TS2U I have some files in my download folder in the Sims 2 already and I am about to instal TS2U, but I want to know whether or not I have to delete the files from folder before I install it...and where do I get the patch from Maxis!
I just moved all my downloads out of my download folder and put them somewhere else on my hard-drive while I installed TS2U. Just in case, I also copied my current game files to the same place on my hard-drive at the same time. Then, I installed TS2U. After installing it, I re-located all the downloads back into the downloads folder. So far, I haven't encountered any trouble, but I've only been playing TS2U for a couple of hours. Apparently, some of the hacks and re-colors also place bits of code into other places than the downloads folder, and if you leave those bits in place, they can jank up your installation. I only had a few re-color items installed at the time and no hacks, so my experience and yours may vary.
Definitely DO NOT delete your downloaded files, Valerie. The best advice is to just move them out temporarily as aharris suggested. Since the game does not appear to need a downloads directory I think the simplest way of "moving" the files is to just change the name of My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\Downloads to something like My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\Downloads-backup (in other words just add the word to backup to its name - you can change it back any time you want!) The main issues with downloads are these:- All the clothing you have made or downloaded may not be useable with the new Young Adult age range - there will be (is, I think) a tool to change existing clothing. This should not be a problem ... as for make-up, skin tones, hair and eye colors etc. I don't about that! :( Objects that have been recolored by modders for TS2 may not work properly in University. This IS a problem! Many game modification (including the superb ones by JM Pescado) may not work properly. These also live in My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\Downloads so they also should be left out ... so all in all the best advice is change the downloads folder's name until we know more.
