Do they call it phishing? Is that what it's called? I got an email pretending to be from a bank where I don't even have an account, asking me for all sorts of details, including credit card numbers, passwords, my home address, etc. Besides the fact that I don't have an account with Suntrust, the bad spelling gave me a clue. Also, the link was to SuTrust. Brother!! If my elderly father were still alive he might have answered all those questions. He and Mom were so trusting of people. I forwarded the email to the SunTrust bank. Email can be so treacherous
Ack! That's awful, Lynet. Good job in spotting the error in the link too. I haven't heard of SunTrust bank, but I guess the same thing could happen with any other bank name too. I will definitely be sure to check all links in emails extra carefully. My BIL (who had major head trauma leaving him with difficulties in life skills, to add to his learning disablities) was duped on the phone by a mobile phone company who randomly called and managed to get his credit card/bank card details, address etc. from him - luckily my sister dealt with it as soon as she came home as he had told her he had a 'great deal' from them. The phishing email will definitely catch some people off their guard, so thanks for reminding us all to be extra careful. I will tell my parents about it too, as they are not so internet literate. I rarely give out my email and luckily only get a couple of spams a day that go straight to the spam folder. Generally I don't open email unless it's come from a contact or a site that I've been to/signed up for before, eg sims2 newsletter.
Yes, that's called Phishing. I hope Sunbank can do something about them. Not everyone's as smart as you.
