Help Replacing roof im trying to customize a house to exactly how i like using the build tools, easy since ive saved up enough money. Problem is i am having trouble changing the roof... When i delete it, no matter how hard I try, i can't get another one to come in. It says cannot intersect with walls, so i understand maybe i should build an empty floor above and have a roof then but i dont know how to do that either :( If anyone has a tutorial or a can quickly runby something it'd be great help. Thanks.
Oooh, that's a tough one. I've thought of doing a tutorial but where to start?! Sim roofing is a tricky thing but it's not as hard to figure out as it first seems. Roofs cannot cut through other placeable items. This means windows, doors, furniture, paintings, curtains ... anything except a wall basically (and don't forget stairs ... they are a right royal pain! and the railings you might use aroun them). The way I re-roof a house during a remodelling job is to use the MoveObjects on cheat and move all the items that are in the way of the proposed roof. With moveobjects you can drop windows out on the front lawn ... but be careful not to forget little things like wall-lights ... they'll sit there and drive you crazy with their "can't intersect this" when you're trying to drop a roof down ... and then if you move the darn light out to lawn and forget to move it back ... the darn thing'll haunt you again when you wanna plant a tree or some tulips with its red shadow-can't-do-that-ness ...
Are you sure you're not on the lower level than where the roof belongs? I've had what you describe happen when I haven't gone up to the roof level. (You can see the outline of where tiles could go if you are at that level.) So, try going to the spot on the UI where you can go up/down levels or rotate the view. Go up a level and then try placing your roof. You don't have to build a floor there. In fact, if you do it may not let you put the roof on. If I want a floor in my "attic" I generally put it in after I've placed the roof.
