    home business questions

#1.) When I try to buy business items (such as an open close sign) They won't appear. I have EP's university, nightlife, OFB and pets. I am running the sims off of my Pets disk, and when i put the OFB disc in the drive instead and try to start OFB, it says "you are trying to run the wrong version of the sims. please try the sims pets instead" then whenever i run the sims pets, the OFB stuff doesnt work.

#2.) When i try to purchase a community lot (using the pets disc and game) the screen to choose the businesses from comes up black and i can't select anything.

Thanks to anyone who replies. :D

As for question #1, don't change the discs. I have all EPs installed and play only from the Pets disc now. Even though it's the Pets disc in the drive I am still able to buy a business and run it. I just did that tonight, as a matter of fact.

I don't quite understand question #2. When my sim bought a business tonight, she went to the phone and chose the Real Estate option and was offered a list of community lots to purchase.

    Are you using the phone?

Did you install the EPs in the correct order? It's important to install them in the order they came out so they work correctly. (Uni, NL, OFB, Pets) And after, always use the Pets Disk 1 and Pets Icon. Other than that, it might be a glitch, or just a lemon. (I Don't know if lemons are possible with Sims disks, but for all I know they could be.) The screen coming up black could mean your computer is low on RAM, memory, or has a bad quality video card. Or it could simply be that maybe it hasn't been installed correctly or run correctly?

For Q#2, when i go to the phone and click relestate...purchase community lot, the screen to select which community lot i want to purchase is black, and i cannot select anything.

As for the order i installed, i believe i installed OFB uni nightlife pets, how would i fix this (without losing all my houses and families ets.)

I really don't think you can fix it without losing your saved stuff. Maybe if you back up the files, then uninstall, then reinstall in the right order it would work? Then if it doesn't work, you have your backups. This happened to me in the Sims 1. I installed House Party, etc. etc., then I went back and tried to install Livin' Large. But I wasn't smart enough to use backups. I lost everything haha
Sorry, I didnt mean to bore you with my stories lol. Anyway, I'm no expert so I would check on the official site and ask for help from EA/Maxis. They might even have an answer for you in the FAQ section, it's probably not an uncommon problem.

;) To back up files all you have to do is take the EA games folder that you undoubtedly have in your program files and carry it to somewhere such as local disk C or My Documents. It should be a duplicate copy of the files in every way, just in a different place. Just to make sure, right click on it and hit 'Delete'. if it says something to the effect of, "This is only a shortcut and to delete the real program you need to use the wizard..." then it's not a backup. But if it doesnt, congratulations you made your first backup! and make sure you click "Cancel" on the message after checking!

But before you do this...go to My Computer, then right click Local Disk C and click "Properties". You should see a pie chart. If more than half the chart is blue and the sims is the thing taking up the most space, you should probably not back up your files. Backing up files means double the files, and downloading the sims 2 once is a lot of memory by itself!

Once again though, I'm not an expert, I just happen to be a Sims 2 fan whos been playing for a while. So when in doubt, ask the experts ok?
