How do you think Windows Vista will effect TS2? I was just discussing this with some coworkers, not about TS2 especially but just how this new OS will effect current software and hardware. I have been wanting a new computer but our network service guy for our building tells me it's better that I wait until after Vista comes out this summer. He says that most of the computers we have on campus won't run it and that we'll have to buy a lot of new software because it won't be compatible with Vista. This may mean that TS3 could be closer then we thought. I mean with everything they are saying about Vista most of our computers are going to be nothing more the paperweights in the not to distant future. Ruth
The current software and hardware should be 100% compatible with Vista, well as long as the hardware isn't too old. Oh and that's for Windows Vista 32bit Edition, not 64bit. Early specs from Microsoft suggest that as long as you have 512MBs of RAM, a graphics card (not integrated) and a modern CPU. I would suggest 2.8GHz and up. If you're buying a brand name computer (not custom built) yes wait for Vista, but if you're building a custom one then get good parts, don't be cheap with anything. Computers are paperweights within six months anyway. That's why I custom build and get a good motherboard so parts can be upgraded.
Okay, doing my Kyle's Mother Impression: "what what WHAT?" What's all this about a new OS? XP becoming a dinosaur?
Well our PC Tech doesn't believe everything they say about being compatible. Besides that 32bit edition sounds like it's going to be a joke, of course they have to down play it because they want you to upgrade. When we were looking at the information and read where it talks about being backwards compatible, blah blah we all just looked at each other and started laughing. MS is forever promising us that but rarely delivering. We've finally decided that we think they are saying compatible, meaning it should work. What they are actually saying is combatible, meaning that we will have to wrestle someone to the ground to get enough money to either buy new software or hardware and a lot of times both. Ruth
Microsoft makes OSs and software for those OSs, it works. Some software and hardware drivers will have problems because they're not designed for the Windows Vista core. Microsoft doesn't have time to design it's software to be compatible with all of the other software in the world. It seems your PC tech and workplace should perhaps move to mac? Or maybe linux? Trust me there's not much software out there made for that. 64bit would be even harder to do as most of the games and software is made as 32bit (including TS2). 64bit was designed to work with 32bit program as well. Some games and software don't work! Torch Microsoft! Oh wait AMD and Intel makes the CPUs. Who else can we blame? There must be someone, that's the way the world works.
We used to teach Linux and we've had a few Mac but didn't have enough student interest in learning how to use them. We have over 6,000 computers on campus. Whenever MS rolls out their latest and greatest it ends up stretching our budget so that we can stay as close to the cutting edge of technology as we are currently. The general public wants technology to move faster but some of us in education wouldn't mind if it slowed down a bit. We would at least like to appear as if we are trying to keep up. LOL Ruth
Well then tell the general public that they have to play more taxes. Then they will let you slow down.
