How gaming should be done... I've been a gamer for most of my life, and while I may not qualify to be "old school" (I'm only 15), I think I've lived and breathed gaming long enough to understand the mechanics. I think the problem with the industry (Yes, its an industry now) is the whole Developer-Publisher model. I mean, we could be in a much worst position right now, take a look at Ion Storm. That was a developing company that was lead soley by a game developer. They made a great product, Deus Ex Conspiracies and Deus Ex Invisible War, but in the end, they crashed, and closed all their offices down. The problem is that the game developers start too ambitious, and don't have any buisness sense. On the other hand, the Developer-Publisher model could be improved. The publisher is often oppressive and willing to make a quick buck if it means screwing the developer or the gamer. Great example is Infinity Ward (A company made up of game devs who worked on MOH:AA and created the brilliance that is COD). SDK was promised, but Activision bought them, and then stoppe those plans so that they could have Grey Matter produce an epxansion pack which would've been accomplished with the SDK. What I dream of is multiple game developer companies, with no publishers, but a group of Illuminati who each control the developers. (consisting of veteran jaded gamers with some actual buisness sense). Boy, we'd be living in a gaming utopia if this were realized.
