How to post stories in the Library

:blockhead:  How to post stories in the Library :trophy: :profile:

This is a tutorial of sorts on how to post stories in the library. When I first started posting stories, I found some of it a little confusing. The library has different functions than the forums. But it's pretty easy, once you get used to things.

I've heard that Mirelly is supposed to have a thread or something like this somewhere, but since I couldn't find it after hours of searching the site, I thought I'd start a new one that'ss easy to find and easy to get to (sticky maybe?)

I'm not at all sure where this thread should be--maybe there should be a link to it in the FAQs?? Or maybe it should be somewhere in the library itself. I dunno. But I'm starting with the TS2 General Discussion, since that's where all the library promotion threads are.

So lets get this party started! :D

NOTE: For you to understand this tutorial, you will need to know what the library looks like. I'm not about to post pictures on every single thing I say. Having the library open while viewing this tutorial might help as well. :)

How to make your own category:

If you click on 'Drama' for example you will see a whole lot of Sub-Categories and right down at the bottom, you'll find a story by me called The unfortunate lives of the Van de Kemps’ that isn't in a category. If you're planning on posting stories with more than one chapter in them (like most of the stories in the library), you'll be wanting a Sub-category. Plus, people will find your story easier if it's in its own category.
-- If you don't want your own category then skip ahead to the next post. :)

OK, what you need to do is to click on My Stuff that's right at the top of the screen next to Submit Story.
Then click on Category Manager. Once you're in the Category Manager, click on 'Add Category' and you'll get a screen that looks like this:

Name your story/category, write a description if you want to and then choose the genre that you want your story to appear under.
When you've done that click on Add Category again and you've got your very own category. It won't appear under the genre you picked until you post a story in it though, so if you can't find your sub-category right after you made it then don't panic.

You can also go back to the Category Manager to edit or delete your category/-ies.

    How to submit your stories:

I'm sure you've understood that to post stories in the library you have to click on Submit Story at the top of the screen. When you have done that, your screen will look something like this:

Name your chapter and then write your story. Before submitting your story, however, you're going to need to choose a genre--if you've made your own category, choose that one. In the pic, I've highlighted a category I made for my own story called Widbode: Life Through A Vampire's Eyes as an example.
You will find your own category under the genre you posted it in.

If you haven't made a category, then just choose a genre and your story will look like my Vand de Kemp story (found in Drama).

Before you submit your story, you have a few choices if you scroll down.
You can save your story as a draft by checking the box next to Save Draft. When you want to publish your draft that you saved, click on My Stuff and then on My Drafts. Under your stories you will find a link called Publish. Click on it and your story will be published.
You can also automatically publish your story by choosing the dates and time you want it to be published on. (I've never used this function because it's new and I like doing things the old fashioned way by just submitting my stories right away. :p)

Once you've published/submitted your story, you will find it in the category or genre you put it.

I'm sticking this right now, until we decide where it needs to go; I do like the idea of putting it in the FAQs though.

How to add pictures to your stories:

It's exactly the same in the library as in the forums; you click on Manage Attachments. It's pretty easy to find, but I'm sticking a pic in here anyway. Mainly because I got a picture of it :) but also because I was looking in the wrong place when I posted my first story in the library LOL.

When you've clicked on manage attachments it's just to upload the pictures to your story. I think you can upload pictures from URLs as well. The amount of pics that you can upload is unlimited by the way, so you can upload pictures to your heart's desire. :D

Thank you very much. :) I think we might need a link to this thread in the 'How do I' forum because I think that could be the first place people would look, besides from the FAQs I mean.

Hopefully this thread will encourage new people to post in the library! :slaphappy:

How to embed pics into stories and posts:

If you explore the Library, you will see that some stories have the pictures embedded in them instead of showing them as attachments. Like so:

How do you do this? It's easy.

First, click on the Gallery. This is where all the pics at World Sims are kept. As you can see, there are lots of different categories. The one you're looking for is the General Members Album found right at the bottom. Click on it and scroll down to the box called Quick Upload -- once again found at the bottom. You can upload your pics from there.
Once you have uploaded your picture, copy the BB Image Code (the middle one) and then simply copy it to the post you want it in and it will show up looking like the pictures above.

If you want to try this out, then this is the right forum to do so in: An Area to Test Things. Members won't get cranky if you post random pictures in there. :)

(Many thanks to Lynet who told me how to do this and thanks to Mirelly for telling her how to do it before she told me. :p)
